Supporting malt and hop flavor which are also huge and amazingly well balanced. Perfect example of a huge hopped up american ale that is well balanced. Bravo! bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma had a real thick body to it but not cloying really at all. I kind of cut off my rating here. FrancoisMtl (62), Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Bottle from wetherel. Pours Dark red with nice head. Strong caramel aroma with citrus hop. Sweet flavors of caramel with some toffey notes. There is also some alcool and strong C-hops flavors. This full bodied beer shows a high bitterness level which helps balancing the sweetness. Nothing new that has not been brewed yet but this is well brewed. Thanks John! beerbill (1988), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2008 Huge thank you to hellbilly for sending me this one. 750 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown which turns a lovely ruby when held agaianst a light. Moderate, almost creamy tan head that slowly dissipated to a film after three-quarters of a glass and left partial lace. Very pleasant aroma of malt, citrus, and some alcohol. As much as I liked the aroma, the flavor was even better. Huge caramel malt up front, followed by dates, prunes, raisins and just a bit of alcohol. Incredibly smooth and silky mouthfeel. Full bodied and luscious. Excellent! ucusty (1922), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 18, 2008 Thanks to Hellbilly for this one! Dark red (almost brown) pour with fluffy off-white head. Big malty aroma with a hint of hops. Flavor is a little cloying. I wonder if this was the case while it was fresh. An answer I will never know! jcr (1195), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2008 750 ml. Maybe because age has muted the hops I liked this American Strong Ale more than other heavily hopped beers in this style. Hazy amber body with a long-lasting off-white, creamy head. The aroma is malty and fruity with hints of hop citrus — caramel, plum, raisin, toffee, molasses, banana and vanilla. And then there is also a slight hint of spice, perhaps the combination of all the other aromas. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, mildly bitter and lightly acidic. Slight bitterness in the finish. The body is thick and chewy with a velvety texture. Moderate carbonation. Excellent. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2008 750ml bottle: Deep auburn pour with a creamy cap that spiderwebs all the way down. Rich, malty nose is reminiscent of burnt caramel, sweet fudge and cloying raisins. The aged hops add a soft touch of sweet orange, grapefruit, lemons. Big, chewy mouthfeel. The body is malt forward as well, with lots of sugary carmel, toffee, plums, brown sugar and molasses. Heavy banana and vanilla notes come out in the mildly bitter finish. The malts show a soft oxidation, which makes them more creamy to me. This is very good and probably at a great stage to drink them if you have them. The hops have faded nicely, although a little more bitterness would be nice to balance the intense maltiness.
