COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Purchased @ southbay liquor. July 2nd ,2007. Poured into the glass as a thick and heavy red with huge development of foam up top. Even after my gentle pour I estimate the hang time on this head at 3 minutes plus. The nose is a robust aroma of nuts, caramel malt, and some apparent toffee. There is also a reminder of coffee in the nose as well; it’s similar to a See’s candy coffee chocolate or mocha ice cream—at least to me. Moving on to flavor I find a big undeniable nut mix such as pistachio/ cashew with sweet honey. Heavy dosage of thick caramel malt again with a maple syrup too. The mouth feel is very refined and smooth with perfect carbonation. Excellent offering but to bad it isn’t easily available.

Bottle courtesy of my bro Naven. Beautiful, reddish-brown pour w/ a huge, fluffy head. Very drinkable. Alcohol well hidden. Nice caramel sweetness w/ a mild salty, dry finish that reminds me of the Old Numbskull. Excellent. Thanks, Dave.

I bought this bottle from South Bay Drugs and Liquor. The beer pours to a deep red body with a murkiness and lasting tall creamy tan head and nice lacing. The aroma is really hoppy with FRESH citrus including grapefruit and lemons with a rich caramel malt. The flavor is intensely caramelized with some nice grapefruit and grassy hops. The palate is rich and medium full bodied with a nice bitterness but isn’t overly done. Very balanced.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2008 Bottle... O-Town Throwdown Part Duex... This beer rocks!... Murky caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. The earthy aroma is both a malt and hop bomb... gobs of caramel and lots of earthy, piny, PNW hops. Well-balanced and hearty, crystal malt flavor with notes of caramel, cinnamon, citrus fruit pith and American white oak. Full-bodied and fatty with moderate carbonation. Lengthy, bitter-sweet, warming finish. Kudos to TheCheeseMan for providing the sample and to boboski for opening up his home!

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2007 First off, fantastic. Fat sticky head - tons of lacing - lots of fun to swirl around. Aroma was dead on with mostly sweet caramel malts at the core with a touch of pine hops. Flavor was so elegant - caramel, dark fruits, spices, pine hops, butterscotch, enough alcohol showing through to give it some depth - but oh so chewy, smooth and mouth coating - wonderful. Another top notch concoction by Peter and the boys - I’m so pissed I dropped my first bottle and shattered it. Can I beg for a barrel-aged version now or later?

Compared this last night against Yulesmith Summer and fresh Hop 15. This was clearly the standout. Heavily malty, but probably the most aggressively hoppy as well. Caramel and big malts, succulent hops....this is like a refined and perfected Double Bastard.

Bottle, thanks to Chuck and WeeHeavySD!!! Poured a deep, wonderful cap of creamy beige head. Aroma picked up a whole bunch of spruce and pine hoppiness above caramel and toffee sweetness.. very well-hopped with a toasted malt array beneath. Flavor picked up a great array of fantastic elements... spruce and pine over toasted caramel and drier caramel elements at the core.. more toasted darker fruits emerge toward the finish.. sweet, strong, and very enjoyable! This was a great beer!

Courtesy dsnowden. Rich brown color with a thin light tan head. Lively rich peppery hop aroma with some nice malt roastiness lurking below. Taste begins with a rich, well-developed earthy hop kick followed a surprisingly strong malt base that is present throughout the taste. Hoppy but balanced and smooth. It reminded me a little of the Winter Yulesmith.

750ML bottle, pours a dark and clear ruby red tinted cola color with a fluffy persistent orange/tan head, great lacing; very nice looking in the glass. Aroma is more subtle; malty candied dark fruits, plum, raisin, caramel and some slight hoppy orange citrus. Flavor is Yummy with a capital Y! Near perfect balance of malts and hops, not syrupy sweet, but packs a lot in and compliments the aroma very nicely. Alcohol is indetectable. Stellar fresh, but can’t wait to see this bad boy with some age on it. And yet another winner from AleSmith (big surprise)!
