CharlesDarwin (1379), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 14, 2007 750mL Bottle. Thanks Andy! Aroma is a middle malt of candied apricots, fading oak leaves, toasted mixed nuts and some sweetness. Pours a deep ruddy amber, darkened with caramel and fused with a heady tinted foam of silky cream. Flavor begins with that dense thick malt texture familiar to the standard Evil Dead. One of the richer textures available. Initially there’s some serious lageresque malt quality with silky toffees, caramels, and toasted sugars, but these fade. Flavor confuses with higher alcohols, the signature AleSmith yeast minerals, and some heavily faded hops. There’s a biting, coarse Celeriac bitterness and a hard rocky edge that really makes the back end unpleasant. Get the dill seed out of my mouth. It seems like a shame to put the lovely Evil Dead through this awkward transformation with more alcohol, magnified sweetness and dying hops. You can’t deny the magnificence of the malt build and feel or the nice concealing of the alcohol, but the hops are less than desirable and I think the yeast too forward. There’s still an unpleasant chemical mineral quality that’s still with me a while later. What is everybody getting so excited about?
imadeadguy (151), Westampton, New Jersey, USA Aug 29, 2008 Pour is hazy amber/red with white head. Aromas of caramel, sweet malt, and hops. Flavor is malt, fruit, and a nice finish with hops. Solid brew and alcohol is well hidden. plovmand (525), Helsinge, Denmark Aug 28, 2008 Rating no. 500. Bottle at Ulfborg RB tasting. Thanks alot dedollewaitor. My first experiance with Alesmith but absolutely not the last. This is heavy shit. It poured hazy amber with a creamy beige head. Aroma was heavy malt and hops with a fruity background. Flavour is powerfull with lots of malt and grassy hops. Soft mouthfeel. Great brew! Dedollewaitor (2036), Odense, Denmark Aug 27, 2008 75cl bottle. Thank you, Chris. Pours hazy amber with a red hew & creamy beige head. Nose is roasted lots of fruits & hops. Vinous & round. Sticky & full palate. Sugary notes before a long end. Great! thewolf (3607), Kolding, Denmark Aug 26, 2008 Bottle @ TFODRBSG, Ulfborg, 2008.
[thank you, dedollewaitor]
Pours deep red with a great, creamy, yellowish head. Great lacing and fine duration. Aroma is sweet, lots of sticky hoppiness, some port and oak. Super light carbonation, great mouthfeel. Flavour has good maltiness at first, but some sugary feel creeps in and ruins it a bit for me. Lots of hops to balance it out - it just feels too light and sugary to be exceptional. Still great, though. fiver29 (303), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Aug 23, 2008 Tasted at Cleveland tasting on 8-23-08. Thanks!! Bottle pours a dark ruby color with a off white head. Has an aroma that makes me think of butterscotch and sweet caramel. Has a medium to heavy body. Taste is very nice. Has a stinging sensation from the carbonation. And the flavors of caramel, toffee, butterscotch are in abundence. Overall this is a very nice brew.
