PilsnerPeter (1322), Flushing, New York, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering: Amber with a strong tan head. The aroma has some carmelized malts, subdued/aged hops, and a papery oxidized suggestion. Fluffy/creamy body with a rich malt presence. Lots of caramel with little hop character left. A bit peppery and earthiness comes through to balance the earlier caramel sweetness. It aged pretty gracefully.
RollinHard (502), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jul 10, 2008 Pours a ruby red with brown highlights and a big fluffy tan head that disintegrates shortly. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, grapefruit (covered in sugar), and pineapple. The fruity hops are more inviting than a harsh earthy onslaught. Becomes faint as the carbonation dies. Really nice flavor upfront, big and sweet with lots of caramel, brown sugar, burnt toffee, woody hops and a hints of old citrus. Finishes with more hop flavor than bitterness, sweet citrus, cake, pie crust, and wood. Aftertaste is wonderful and goes on and on. Texture is almost Belgian in nature, but the carbonation is a bit less prickly. Chewy and not heavy. I enjoyed this more than I ever thought I would enjoy an "imperial red." oberabcbbsok (642), Hoboken, Belgium Jun 30, 2008 A very nice and good hopped beer. Well balanced and full bodied. Had it on bottle in Antwerp railcat1 (478), Hammond, Indiana, USA Jun 28, 2008 I had this on DLD 08 and it poured a red to ruby color with a small tan head and lacing a bit sticky with caramel malts and candy sugars overall tasty.CHEERS! biz82 (1299), austin, Texas, USA Jun 26, 2008 Hazy red with a loose tan head. Giant sticky caramel and hop aroma. Supporting malt and hop flavor which are also huge and amazingly well balanced. Perfect example of a huge hopped up american ale that is well balanced. Bravo! bgburdman9 (702), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 24, 2008 An old rating i finally got to entering. Poured a brown reddish with a tan head. Aroma had a real thick body to it but not cloying really at all. I kind of cut off my rating here.
