Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Picked up this bottle at the brewery last week. The title "decadence" is appropriate in this case, it is an indulgence. This beer pours a dark brown, not sure why they call it a red, but there it it is--dark--almost opaque brown, that light will not shine thru. The head is ample and khaki colored, and dissipates very slowly. Aroma is very pronounced sweet anise and some cedar. Mouthfeel is slightly syrupy and very silky. Overall a very pleasant fullness. Taste is toasted oats, mild hops, some smoke and black walnuts. The whole experience has a ground engaged earthiness. Finishes long and glorious with rich malts, caramel and hops. This is what every beer wants to be when it grows up.

Pour is hazy amber/red with white head. Aromas of caramel, sweet malt, and hops. Flavor is malt, fruit, and a nice finish with hops. Solid brew and alcohol is well hidden.

Rating no. 500. Bottle at Ulfborg RB tasting. Thanks alot dedollewaitor. My first experiance with Alesmith but absolutely not the last. This is heavy shit. It poured hazy amber with a creamy beige head. Aroma was heavy malt and hops with a fruity background. Flavour is powerfull with lots of malt and grassy hops. Soft mouthfeel. Great brew!

75cl bottle. Thank you, Chris. Pours hazy amber with a red hew & creamy beige head. Nose is roasted lots of fruits & hops. Vinous & round. Sticky & full palate. Sugary notes before a long end. Great!

Bottle @ TFODRBSG, Ulfborg, 2008.
[thank you, dedollewaitor]
Pours deep red with a great, creamy, yellowish head. Great lacing and fine duration. Aroma is sweet, lots of sticky hoppiness, some port and oak. Super light carbonation, great mouthfeel. Flavour has good maltiness at first, but some sugary feel creeps in and ruins it a bit for me. Lots of hops to balance it out - it just feels too light and sugary to be exceptional. Still great, though.

Tasted at Cleveland tasting on 8-23-08. Thanks!! Bottle pours a dark ruby color with a off white head. Has an aroma that makes me think of butterscotch and sweet caramel. Has a medium to heavy body. Taste is very nice. Has a stinging sensation from the carbonation. And the flavors of caramel, toffee, butterscotch are in abundence. Overall this is a very nice brew.
