750ml bottle fresh. Poured a glossy black with a really sexy head of frothy tan cream. Nice lacing. In the light this beer can be anywhere from deep brown to red/maroon. The aroma is dark chocolate and roast, although the roast is light. I’m not detecting a lot of subtleness.
Ah, the more I drink the more this excites me. A very nice chocolate background with some alcohol and liquorish. The body is just about perfect; very smooth. Overall a beautiful beer with the only negative being a slight tang to the finish.

Consumed 2009. I believe it has thinned out some, but the chocolate is still very prevalent. The tang that I noticed fresh, seems to be gone. Still quite good with no signs of age beyond the thinning body.

I didn’t mean to rate this as high as I did, but every time I think about the addictive flavor it puts me on tilt. This stuff is amazing, especially if you like chocolate. The aroma is very faint, but lends itself towards a baker’s chocolate with hints of roasted malts. The flavor is where it’s at though. Nice semi-sweet chocolate flavor that isn’t cloying. A bit of an alcohol presense, but not that bad. It also has a nice bitterness that dissapates quick enough to leave you ready for the next sip. Awesome stuff!

Bottle. Pours a deep black with a small cream-colored head. Big sweet malt aroma, with notes of molasses and brandy. Taste starts with sweet toasted malt, then moves into a more bitter coffee and chocolate flavor. Bit of an alcohol bite. Wonderful lingering toasty bitterness. Very nice.

Almost a stoutish coloured beer, but a bit too think. Has a slightly brown head, like toast, with a dark body with some red hints at the edges. Sweet chocolaty aroma. A bit of roast and chocolate in the flavour. Not too complex but easily drinkable.

Poured black with a thick brown head and lacing. Aroma and flavor of rich dark chocolate, roasty malts, caramel with a big thick mouthfeel. Alcohol is present but not overwelming at finish. Good beer!

750ml bottle. Good roasted malt and cohcolate on the nose. Black body with tan head. Sweet roasty toffee flavor stands out with some chcolate in the mix. Has a bitter kick to it. Decent dry coffee aftertaste on the palate.

Bottle pours black with a dark tan head. Has a nice aroma of dark malts and some chocolate. I can see light pass through a little when I hold it up to the light. Has a medium mouthfeel. Its lighter than I expected for an imperial. Has a sweet malt flavor, caramel, chocolate, and finishes with a smooth coffee like flavor. Overall this is a very good brew. The flavors come together well, but is still somewhat hot. A year or two perhaps and the flavors might meld even better.

Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc, mabel & tupalev - courtesy of blankboy. Deep brown-black with ruby hints and a small tan head. Awesome sweet & malty aroma - caramel, cocoa, slightly burnt malt. Big mouthfeel. Flavour starts sweet with some dark chocolate and caramel, moving into a long, roasty and well hopped finish. Lovely!
