SDalkoholic (1017), Chula Vista, California, USA May 31, 2008 Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Once poured, the liquid created a dark brown that was nearly opaque with a topping of head similar to a spray of whip cream. My nose was instantly gratified once I took a sniff of the sweet roasted malt that sent coffee and chocolate reminders to my memory of smell. The flavor was even richer than I could have ever imagined from the aroma alone and I instantly began to fall in love with this porter by the moment. The initial taste is of bitter milk chocolate and has roast malt to a degree of perfection unknown to compare to other porters sampled, but I still am in amazement of the rich and smooth balance of dark malt profile right down to the palate and level of ABV present. Such an astonishing porter and I am in the belief this thought of an “ Imperial Porter” can be, and will be, an idea worth experimenting with for others.
bb (2069), Martinez, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle. Mahogony beer with a brown/tan head. Chocolate and nice malt aroma. Chocolate and nice balancing malt flavor. Medium-plus bodied. Chocolate, light roast, and rich malt linger. Nice complexity. Very good. Praetorian (42), Los Angeles, California, USA Aug 18, 2008 Dark brown in color with a large, light brown head with decent lacing. The aroma is of Chocolate and coffee with a hint of molasses and oak. The flavor is of chocolate and coffee with a strong alcohol backbone and a slightly metallic finish. The texture is creamy. It’s a great porter that has a complex and aggressive flavor with a good kick but isn’t overwhelming. A first class beer, very enjoyable. Dedollewaitor (1906), Odense, Denmark Aug 15, 2008 75cl bottle. Trade. Thanks Chris. Pours pitch black with a small creamy brown head. Nose is roasted malts - toffee, caramel, chocolate & coffee. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and malt. Flavor is similar: chocolate, coffee and alcohol. The alcohol is mellow and nice, not really overwhelming. Very much like an Imperial Stout but with a thinner body and less intense flavors/aromas.
