Commercial Description:
The third offering in our series of Decadence Anniversary Ales, is a big, rich Imperial Porter. Brewed to the parameters of a classic Porter, Decadence 2007 has the intense aromas of dark malt and chocolate complimented by a lusciously smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is rich and malty, and balanced with just the right amount of English East Kent Goldings hops. The aftertaste will leave you pining for more, so don’t miss out on this release of Decadence 2007. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!

From a 750mL Bottle. Dark brown pour, mostly transparent, with edges of ruddy tan and a thin head of creamy beige. Aromas of cocoa and dark chocolate fudge with a deep, nutty almond complexity. Minimal roast, but lots of chocolate. Subtle whiffs of earthy hops as well. There’s almost a hint of roasted prune in there as well, but everything is clean and fruitiness is minimal. Medium-full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a rich, malty texture. Moderately roasty malt flavors up front on the palate, along with more dark chocolate, but free of any unpleasant roast bitterness. Some caramel, toffee, and coconut flake subtleties poke through as well. Toward the finish, an earthy, herbal moderate hop bitterness starts to emerge, building in intensity into the finish, where it successfully dries up any residual malt sugars from the palate. The hops tend to get a bit planty and overly bitter in the finish (they are contributing minimal flavor complexity), but I’d imagine this will retreat some with age. Great malt bill.

750 mL from stefanje’s AWESOME summer secret santa shipment. Deep, dark reddish brown pour with a medium head that fades to a thin disc atop the beer. Rich chocolate aroma with notes of alcohol, dark fruits and coconut. Taste is roasted malts, espresso, chocolate, dark fruits, some hop notes and warming alcohol. Full bodied and quite nice. A worthy 900th rating. Thanks Stefan!

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a spongy tan head; slowly settles leaving thick lace and crema. Nose is coffee, rich cocoa and smoky raisin. Starts with a hot blast of alcohol, like a chocolate liqueur. Smooths out with warming, a touch of carb. Taste is espresso, dark chocolate, prunes and dates. A most assertive porter; i like it.

Bottle. Pours deep brown, capped with a huge brown head. Aroma of tootsie rolls, vanilla, chocolate, and brown sugar. Bittersweet chocolate hits the palate first, which is soon joined by vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt. Some warming alcohol joins roasted chocolate malt for a long finish. Silky smooth and very drinkable. Nice.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a dense brown head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and brown sugar. Flavor reflects the aroma, with a hint of coffee and warming alcohol that is only slightly apparent.

Sample at J Gumbos Aug 2008 Indy tasting - Aroma is roasty dark malts, vanilla, coffee and brown sugar. Flavor matches aroma with some caramel and alcohol showing up. Palate is smooth for 10%. A tasty brew.
