ross (1562), charlotte, North Carolina, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle. American Strong Ale? ok.. Peter - you need to correctly label your beers; do not put Imperial Porter on a beer which God deems to be an ASA. Anyway, this PORTER is something I have been looking forward to drinking for a while. Dark brown almost black color with a thick tan head on it. Smell is sweet, rich, chocoalte, coffee, alcohol, and minor caramel flavors. Taste is smooth and rich, with a full body and full of coffee and chocolate flavors. The alcohol is apparent from the first sip, but after a glass and a half the alcohol is really apparent. Damn good shit, this one should be a year round beer as Alesmith lacks a Porter. Great stuff, cant wait to see what Decadence 2008 is.
The_Epeeist (980), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2008 25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a spongy tan head; slowly settles leaving thick lace and crema. Nose is coffee, rich cocoa and smoky raisin. Starts with a hot blast of alcohol, like a chocolate liqueur. Smooths out with warming, a touch of carb. Taste is espresso, dark chocolate, prunes and dates. A most assertive porter; i like it. kkearn (689), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep brown, capped with a huge brown head. Aroma of tootsie rolls, vanilla, chocolate, and brown sugar. Bittersweet chocolate hits the palate first, which is soon joined by vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt. Some warming alcohol joins roasted chocolate malt for a long finish. Silky smooth and very drinkable. Nice. nqualls (422), Tennessee, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a dense brown head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and brown sugar. Flavor reflects the aroma, with a hint of coffee and warming alcohol that is only slightly apparent. MI2CA (1101), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2008 Sample at J Gumbos Aug 2008 Indy tasting - Aroma is roasty dark malts, vanilla, coffee and brown sugar. Flavor matches aroma with some caramel and alcohol showing up. Palate is smooth for 10%. A tasty brew. alexanderj (1346), San Diego, California, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle, courtesy of my sister. Poured a very dark brown/black with a big, compact brown head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar; more subtle hints of coffee, roasted malt, and fruit/cherries. Really smooth and solid flavor. Hinds the alcohol masterfully. Very nice and soft palate. Taste of chocolate (a little bit bitter chocolate), vanilla/sugar, and wood/earth. Some caramel and fruit. Just a really enjoyable beer.
