COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 2010 and 2005 versions have the same recipe.

In 2010 we return to the style that was chosen for the very first AleSmith Decadence®, an English-style Old Ale. Abundant malty flavors and the perfect balance of English hops define this classic style. Four specialty yeast strains and the use of tradition brewing sugars create a rich and tasty flavor profile. AleSmith Decadence® pleases and tantalizes the palate in a way that has become the hallmark of AleSmith’s premium ales.

English Style Old Ale

In 1995, a momentous happening occurred in San Diego:AleSmith was forged. In the ten years since then, we have had the pleasure of enjoying the fruits of our labor and we have been fortunate to develop a faithful following of friends. We are commemorating this decade with a very special brew: Decadence Anniversary Ale. We deeply appreciate your support and we hope you join us in our "Decadent" decennial celebration.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2006 A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and lots of fruit, leaning towards the over ripe end of life. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, prunes, over ripe fruits, wood, and alcohol, that prickles the tongue. The end is dry and woody.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2010 (Bottle 75 cl) Very beautiful clear, dark amber - looks like a good cognac - with a small, off-white head. Fat, flowery hoppy aroma. Very full body with tons of sweet caramel malt. Very vinuos with notes of overripe fruits - a bit sugary. Old Ale? This is more your typical American Barley Wine. 031205 and 061006

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Blindtasting. Pours a cloudy and opaque brown with an off-white head. Sweet aroma of roasted malts, licorice allsorts and overripe fruit. Medium body with notes of caramel, overripe fruit and and oxidized edge. Hops have faded quite a bit while the alcohol is still sharp in the finish. 7/3/7/3/15=3.5 060510

Cask at O’Brien’s, San Diego. Clear dark reddish brown. Raisiny, near portlike and very sweet with some cherry tones. Very liqueur-like with notes of orange and curacao. A massive onslaught of flavours, but finishes disappointingly dusty and alcoholic.

Cloudy amber color; sparse bubbles. Sweet caramel and toffee aroma, light butter and vanilla, light earthy hops. Sweet caramel and fudge flavor; it may be a bit buttery (therefore suspect); a soft nutty edge too; correct bitterness. The final is just lightly astringent. Good.

2006-03-29, at Freakin’ Frog, Las Vegas, 8-5-8-5-17=43
Hazy dark amber color. Extremely malty aroma. Strong mouthfeel, a bit oily, sirupy malty, with an English level of bitterness, quite similar to a Fuller’s Vintage, thicker and more warming.
