The 2010 and 2005 versions have the same recipe.

In 2010 we return to the style that was chosen for the very first AleSmith Decadence®, an English-style Old Ale. Abundant malty flavors and the perfect balance of English hops define this classic style. Four specialty yeast strains and the use of tradition brewing sugars create a rich and tasty flavor profile. AleSmith Decadence® pleases and tantalizes the palate in a way that has become the hallmark of AleSmith’s premium ales.

English Style Old Ale

In 1995, a momentous happening occurred in San Diego:AleSmith was forged. In the ten years since then, we have had the pleasure of enjoying the fruits of our labor and we have been fortunate to develop a faithful following of friends. We are commemorating this decade with a very special brew: Decadence Anniversary Ale. We deeply appreciate your support and we hope you join us in our "Decadent" decennial celebration.

Having tried this both from draft and bottle I much prefer the bottle. Seems the time spent in the bottle has mellowed the alcohol heat. Anyways, pours a dark chestnut brown with a loose creamy head. Full bodied with hints of brown sugar, dried plums and caramelized sugar.Good roasted bitterness comes in near the middle and rides it out to the finish. Sweet but not cloying in the least. Fine, fine beer thats just gonna get better!

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014 (as 2014 Olde Ale), thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Hazy dark amber color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of malt, dark fruit and yeast. Full-bodied with flavors of bready malt, figs, butterscotch and yeast. The finish is dark fruits and yeast. Good beer overall.

Very pleased with this one. Solid malt flavor. A bit of alcohol heat, but very smooth considering the incredibly high ABV.

Aroma: heavy prunes, caramel, heavy malts, bread and grain, alcohol. Appearance: hazy, dark brown, small, creamy, off-white head. Taste: heavy sweet. Palate: intense sweets continue, heavy on overripe fruits, caramel, prunes, some very light dryness in the long finish. Overall: fantastic Old Ale, excellent complexity, well-balanced. Pint at AleSmith Brewing Company, San Diego.

Labeled as Olde Ale Dark orange amber color. Off white head with good staying power until fading to a ringed collar. Nose is caramel, dark fruits, fig, and leather. Very malt forward beer. Some of the AVB is present. Taste is like the nose. Dark fruits, leather, caramel, leather. Some subtle hops but a whole lot of malt. Sticky but very dry. Low carbonation and full bodied. Really nice Old ale

"a little booze and toasted malt on the nose. the hops are barely there but provide a touch of balance, but this is definitely a malt driven brew. another that is pretty good within the style, but not a standout for alesmith. it lacks their trademark hoppiness, which fits this style. again, alcohol more apparent in the nose, but hidden from the palate. well done though not THEIR best. It’s good to be spoiled :)"
