The 2010 and 2005 versions have the same recipe.

In 2010 we return to the style that was chosen for the very first AleSmith Decadence®, an English-style Old Ale. Abundant malty flavors and the perfect balance of English hops define this classic style. Four specialty yeast strains and the use of tradition brewing sugars create a rich and tasty flavor profile. AleSmith Decadence® pleases and tantalizes the palate in a way that has become the hallmark of AleSmith’s premium ales.

English Style Old Ale

In 1995, a momentous happening occurred in San Diego:AleSmith was forged. In the ten years since then, we have had the pleasure of enjoying the fruits of our labor and we have been fortunate to develop a faithful following of friends. We are commemorating this decade with a very special brew: Decadence Anniversary Ale. We deeply appreciate your support and we hope you join us in our "Decadent" decennial celebration.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2014 2005 Bottle aged approximately one year.
Raw, fresh and messy in the nose, it certainly has that unpasteurized, unfiltered feel to it that is so appealing about alesmith. Unfortunately, the hops are decidedly obnoxious and burst forth with cherry, lychee, grapefruit and orange peel notes, dominating the aroma and limiting the malt presence to a sugary chocolate-meets-caramelized raisin. The flavor, then, is not surprisingly heavy on the hops and Im amazed at how bitter and bold they are after a year in the bottle. Oranges and ruby red grapefruit dominate the opening, with a wash of toffee in the middle that is in turn enveloped by staunch bitterness and alcohol on the end. Low carbonation, and fat malts lead to a typical hop lovers mess but as usual, I dont approve. Would be more interested to try a bottle with 3 years of age on it now. Interesting, anyways, and wholesome, but too messy for me.

750 mL bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy toffee with a medium tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big malty notes of caramel, raisins, molasses and toffee, along with earth and subtle herbal hops. The flavour is medium sweet with huge molasses, toffee and maple notes. Soft herbal and earthy malts provide balance. The finish is long with toasty malts and a subtly spicy, herbal hoppiness. On the palate it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, wow, an amazing malty old ale. Another gem from AleSmith! 2014-08-16

Fad: Taster på Stone som Alesmith Old Ale: Ravfarvet diset øl. Duften er let røg, karamel tørret frugt og alkohol. Smagen er sprittet og "gammel" Helt anden stil her i SoCal men vellavet og ok.

Nice dark brown pour with some amber highlights and a small head like coffee foam. Aroma dark malt and molasses plus maybe a slight nuttiness. Rich flavor with a velvet smooth mouthfeel. Main flavor is a sticky toffee and burnt caramel taste. Lots of coffee and baking chocolate in the finish ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma of ripe fruit, brown sugar. Booze is light, well hidden. The appearance is murky brown/red, off-white head. The flavor is sweet, cherries, boozier, booze burn, ripened fruit, brown sugar. The finish is boozy, sweet, light pine. Medium/thick in body. Excellent.
