COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 2010 and 2005 versions have the same recipe.

In 2010 we return to the style that was chosen for the very first AleSmith Decadence®, an English-style Old Ale. Abundant malty flavors and the perfect balance of English hops define this classic style. Four specialty yeast strains and the use of tradition brewing sugars create a rich and tasty flavor profile. AleSmith Decadence® pleases and tantalizes the palate in a way that has become the hallmark of AleSmith’s premium ales.

English Style Old Ale

In 1995, a momentous happening occurred in San Diego:AleSmith was forged. In the ten years since then, we have had the pleasure of enjoying the fruits of our labor and we have been fortunate to develop a faithful following of friends. We are commemorating this decade with a very special brew: Decadence Anniversary Ale. We deeply appreciate your support and we hope you join us in our "Decadent" decennial celebration.

Sampled in the bomber. Aged two years. A really finely malted brew that is bubbly but so smooth. A really fine palate.

1/3 of a pint at Newcastle Brewdog. Complex aromas of Liquorice, seaweed and mop bucket. Pitch black with a tan skim. Liquorice Imp, soy sauce, cough candy. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, full bodied. Looong finish. A Christmas treat, loved every sip.

75cl bottle from the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey London. As Alesmith Olde Ale. It pours a dark brown color with a nice beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with notes of toffe, licorice and herbs. Taste is quite sweet, with notes of candy sugar, licorice, bread, light booze. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, tasty and sweet

(Bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 15 2014 as Olde Ale MMXIV) Pours bright red brown, small whitish ring of head. Aroma is like English barley wine lite. Toffee, caramel, brown sugar, dried fruits (apricot, berries, prune), partly raisinated brandy grape notes. Flavour follows nose, with the initial malt and fruit sweetness fading into a nice brandy type middle with grape and spirit notes, a bit of an earthy, softly woody character, and then finally dried by alcohol to make a smooth finish with no real hop bitterness or residual alcohol heat. Medium full body, moderate carb. Very elegant old ale, nice fruity cognac-ish quality with no spirit harshness, though lacking the concentrated flavours of an excellent barley wine. Still really easy to drink and decently complex.

Shared 750 ml. bottle as Olde Ale MMXIV, poured to snifters showing a cloudy, brown color, with a modest layer of tan head foam, and waves & spots of lacing. The nose offered some toast, toffee, caramel, and brown sugar sweetness, with esters as dried fruit, and alcohol at the ready. The taste was similar notes, plus moderate, earthy bitterness, somewhat of a syrupy texture, full body, moderate carbonation, and alcohol that was boozy, but also quite warming. Tastiest sampling of the evening!

Bottle @ Appellation Comely Bank tasting thanks to I think BenH, but it might’ve been McNeillR, Stuuu666 or Benjii. Appearance - dark amber to chestnut with a nice head. Nose - lots of fresh honey and some breadiness. Taste - oh, it’s pancakes and syrup. Nice. Palate - medium to full bodied and similar texture through the middle section and a big finish, which given the style is fine. Overall - yes, great!

Beardaxe (266) - - DEC 6, 2014
Poured from a big bottle into a tulip. Big head that lingers. Aromas of malt, dark fruit, and butterscotch. Flavor is very sweet, filled with cherry and plum and similar fruits. Don't see much of the bitterness the bottle describes, but the beer is still balanced enough that it doesn't become overloaded with sweetness. Very smooth for 11%. Good beer.
