3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madvike (1463) - Middleton, USA - FEB 4, 2012
2011 bottle from bofnjackson...thanks Matthew! - Pours murky mahogany with a bubbly light tan head. Herbal hops on the nose, with caramel, dark bread roast, chocolate, and a light boozy warmth. Tastes caramelly, with milk chocolate, light herbal hops, and a bit of milkiness. Bitter roast on the finish, with a touch of nuttiness. Very nice and smooth--a sipper, though less hot than what I would have thought.

Bottle with friends. Poured a murky brown red color. Aromas of cherry, cocoa, sugars, creamy malts, nice hop bite at the end. Other tasting notes of plum, spicy yeasts, roasted malt, and candy sugar. Excellent.

A knock-you-on-the-rear big beer. Big mouth feel, great fruitiness, surprisingly hoppy.A real American take on this style. I would like to drink more as so tasty but booze bill took its toll on us. Share with friends!
Gotten in trade.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 espenra (661) - Kurland, NORWAY - MAR 17, 2012
75cl bottle at Håndverkerstuene. Brown colour with hints of a red hue and no head. Aroma is fruity, lots of dried fruits actually and malts. Notes of toffee and sweet caramel. Flavour is bitter the first second, but then the sweet and fruity notes take complete control. Hops are present as well. Alcohol and malts are also present. All in all it’s just to sweet.

2010 bottle. Again, not sure who I got this from but am grateful for the tasty AleSmith. Pours a cloudy amber with ruby highlights and a small, lasting off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, dark fruits (figs, dates, raisins), brown sugar, spices, and something that hints at wood. Flavor of caramel malts, brown sugar, root beer, and woody booze. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, warm mouthfeel. Very good.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 alexsdad06 (2339) - Ohio, USA - FEB 1, 2012
750 ml bottle (2005 consumed in 2011) shared by shigadeyo. Pours a clear deep copper color with a small off white film. The aroma is big, sweet caramel and toffee, ripe fruits, tobacco and a hint of chocolate. The flavors are much of the same with big caramel/toffee character, dark ripe fruits, tobacco, hints of chocolate and a splash of vanilla. This was a treat to be able to try. Tasted alongside the 2010 bottle this was the clear winner. 4.1.
The 2010 version had more alcohol showing and a bigger herbal component. I think this will improve with more time. 3.8.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 dreadnord (308) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - JAN 22, 2012
Pours dark brown with a big tan head. Nose is caramel and ripe prunes and plums, very strong nose. Flavor is fairly well balanced but hangs out on the side of sweet more than anything. Mouthfeel is silky smoove and creamy. Aftertaste is very long. This is one in a line of amazing anniversary beers.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Niko100 (1175) - New York, USA - JAN 9, 2012
Dark amber/brown color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, caramel/toffee, dark fruit, & some alcohol; Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, molasses, chocolate, ripe dark fruit (notably figs & dates), some hops, and spice; Finish is slightly bitter; Very nicely balanced; Overall, ridiculously smooth - delicious brew.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mixmasterob (676) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - DEC 25, 2011
Dark brown pour with a frothy beige head. Aroma was big time sweet malt and dark fruit. Almost like rum soaked raisins. Flavors were big, sweet and malty. Lots of fruit and booze. Given the hugeness that was this beer it remained somewhat drinkable and nice. Alesmith just doesn’t miss, everything they do is straight to the point, always to style and top notch quality. Thanks Santa for the bottle.
