COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. You’ll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

Bottle @ CK. deep ber with a small head. Sorting peppery and hot. Caramel swirl and cows tails. Taste is sort of smoky, some ham, some caramel. Brown sugar. Medium body, soft carb. Too much smoke character.

"2nd wish list cross off from Toronado SD. Maple smoked barlwywine. Just sounds awesome. It met expectations everywhere but the body, which was lacking just a little smoothness/depth/fullness. The flavor and aroma were spot on, with the smoke being up front and the maple very subtle."

750ml bottle from Capones. Cloudy and murky light brown pour with a light beige head. Apple brandy, light maple syrup, smokyness complements and doesn’t overwhelm, some roasted and sweet malt, moderate carbonation and full body, fairly sweet throughout but just stops shy of being overwhelming. Quite enjoyable.

HMOG 2014. Smokey barleywine? Interesting, but I have come to know that a smoke is something that I rarely dig. Unfortunately, this was not one of the few that I like. Mild, light smoke, hints of bacon with bits of maple and a goes does of molasses. Sweet boozy finish. Not bad, just not my thing I suppose.

HMOG donation. Brought this back from SD about a year and half ago and it already had about a year of age on it. Not sure what possessed me other than to get the Alesmith rate but I am not typically a big fan of smoke. It has to be done well and pretty damn subtle in order for me to like it. This one still has a bit of smoke going on which is exacerbated a bit by the maple as well. Personal preference here so don’t knock my rate.

Aroma of smoke and alcohol. Medium body, sweet, somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Burnt maple syrup, with hints of alcohol. Warm alcohol finish.
