COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. You’ll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

Appearance: Pours magogany with some with a thin tan ring atop. Within the dense damp body are tan yeast floaties. I did get the bottom 1/3.

Aroma: Alcohol,wood,campfire Brown sugar.

Taste: Dark booze, burnt toast, wood, bitter hops, finishes bittersweet.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied. Modest carbonation.

Overall: This beer has a lot of promise. I can base that on the fact that I enjoy everything AleSmith pumps out. With that being said, this beer was hot, so hot that it over powered the beer for me. I will revisit it in a year, where it should be hitting perfectly.

Via trade with 48FanInCali. The aroma is chocolate, caramel, smoke, fruit, bread. The smoke is fairly subtle. Very sweet. The appearance is hazy red/brown, off-white head. The flavor is like the aroma, sweet upfront, smoke, fruity. The finish is smoky, salty, sweet caramel, pine. Medium/thick in body. Nice. Thanks, Austin.

Would like a bit more smoke, but that’s my only complaint. A fantastic beer with a lot of malt complexity.

750 ml bottle shared with the local group. Pours a hazy dark amber/copper color with a medium sized, but rapidly diminishing bubbly beige head. The aroma is caramel malt, maple syrup and noticeable, but well integrated smoke. The flavor is pretty much as advertised; caramel, maple and smoke. The smoke is more meaty than peaty. This also has some woody notes that lead to mild bitterness at the finish. The alcohol seems to be well hidden, but with warming the burn slowly becomes more noticeable. Overall, I enjoyed this one and will probably revisit this with some age.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark copper brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark chocolate toasted malt, smoke, alcohol and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.

Bottle at home, from my Minneapolis Town Hall glass. Consumed on the back deck, while watching the girlfriend cut my (massive) back lawn. Sometimes this leg injury has its benefits (heh heh heh). Pours murky/hazy bronze, with a garnet hue. Moderate to thick pale tan head, great lacing. Nose is smoky, with maple, pecans, clean barley sugar, puffed wheat, and rich toffee. Flavours of toffee, maple, gentle smoke, caramel corn, a bit brandyish, with a touch of fruit towards the finish. A touch hot, but delicious.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2013 Bottle... Poured brownish, mahogany with a thin, khaki head. Nose of maple, smoke, dark cereal grains, and oak. Nice alcohol character that acted like whiskey with the maple countering it. Hints of light smoke, charred grains, dark fruits, wood, toffee burnt sugars and a flavorful finish.

P: Dark amber with some brown highlights. A: Smoke, peppermint, maple, alcohol and licorice. T: Smoke, toast, alcohol, oak and a bit of maple. M: Full body, very warm and dry. O: The first half was nothing but smoked malts and alcohol and I wasnt feeling it. Halfway through the maple character started coming out and so did caramel malt which I enjoyed. Its worth trying but dont expect much.
