COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alesmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time concocting Alesmith Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary. Alesmith Decadence 2011 is a Maple Smoked Barley wine. Blending elements of two beer styles, smoke beer and barley-wine. Alesmith has created a unique, homebrew-inspired beer. Big and malty, with a huge Bamberg smoked-malt character, Alesmith Decadence 2011 has another very special ingredient: Vermont maple syrup. The smoky malt flavor is perfectly balanced by modest bittering hop additions. A rich, full-bodied beer designed to deliver a memorable drinking experience. Join our anniversary celebration with Alesmith Decadence. You’ll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find legendary craftsmanship.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a tight soapy off white head that fades to a wispy film. Aroma is smokey peat and faint caramel. Taste is strong smokey peat and caramel with warming finish. Palate is full and slick with a sticky dry finish.

Dark copper pour with slight tan head. Lots of lacing. Light toffee and caramel, mostly smoke nose. Smoke smacks you on the face. Just hints of maple. Changes as it warms, don't drink this cold! Pretty good, if you like complex but not sweet barley wines, you will like this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour out of 750 mL bottle thanks to dak for the pour! Dark reddish brown pour with nice lasting off white head, nice tight bubbles. Aroma brought notes of maple, sweet caramel, toffee, hints of smoke and bacon notes, touch of slight biscuit as well, a bit nondescript. Taste is sweet maple, slight caramel and toffee notes, hints of slight smoke but really limited, touch of dark fruits finishes fairly sweet. Surprised at the lack of smoke in there, but this will age well for sure.

750mL bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, orange-amber color; modest off-white head. Maple syrup quite noticeable, with lightly charred smoke and rich caramel in the aroma. Medium-full mouthfeel; relaxed carbonation. Rich, intense caramelized sugar coupled to a soft smokiness and maple syrup with a crystalline sugar character; very well-hidden alcohol, with just a modest warming component. Nicely constructed barley wine with a soft, maple-syrup and smoke component. Lasting, layered sweetness. Tasty stuff.

I’m not a huge smoked beer fan, but this one had the right amount of smokiness behind a great barleywine base. The hint of maple sweetness is a great added flavor.

Bottle thanks to ZX6Chris, cheers man! Pours a murky dark beige color with a medium white head. A rich nose of fruity malts, smoke and sweet candy, banana. The flavor is a rich medley of smoked malt, candies, caramel, banana esters, warmth, but a overall light flavor. Lots of maple syrup throughout but not overly big in any of the flavors. Interesting and good.

On tap at brewery. Light copper pour with quickly disappearing off white head. Nose is brown sugar maltiness and maple. Taste is big smoke up front. Lots of smoke, but not overpowering. Oats and light brown sugar. Not bad but not OMG either.

Bottle and cask. Pours with a hazed bronze hued body with an off-white head. Aromas are of light smoke, alcohol, caramel, medium dark fruit esters, raisins, dates and pancakes. Flavors are boozy, medium smoke and quite bitter (as far as balance). Lots of alcohol, light maple and dark fruit. Medium bubbles, warming, big bodied. Tasty. Should be fun to see a barrel aged version of this.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, smoke, slight chocolate, a hint of maple syrup, and Bamburg wood. Poured deep orange/brown/copper color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished quickly but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Very hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, smoke, smoked wood, slight raisin, slight toffee, slight hops, and hints of maple and sugar. Medium to full body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Light to medium sweet, slightly bitter, malt, smoke, smoked wood, slight maple finish is slightly dry. 11%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
