4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
750mL bottle picked up from the brewery a while back, also at Olive Tree Market in OB for $12.99. Clear deep burgundy brown and has a lovely two finger beige tan head, creamy and lasts a few minutes, does rouse when swirled. Plums and molasses, dark candi sugar and caramel, dried out by some toasty malt and graham cracker. Just a little spicy phenolics. Flavor follows suit with a little added banana midway through, and the phenolics getting a a little spicier with the addition of alcohol, which wasn’t too apparent, but went well with this beer. Bitterness peaked at a 2-3, slightly earthy finish. Full body with low creamy carbonation. Very tasty--it’s such a nice thing to get a good quad--and, this is cheaper than Rochefort 10 oz per oz for a good quad.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a deep, rich , clear red brown color with creamy beige head. Aroma of subtle sweet malts, candi, cherries, plums and raisins - nothing short of the best Belgian strong dark ales (St.Bernardus, Rochefort, Westvleteren). Flavor is malty, chewy fruity notes, dried figs and raisins, just a hint of molasses, light belgian yeast spice. Alcohol is felt but not smelled or tasted, just perfectly warming. Quite a surprise, a great one at that.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle. Pours a clear deep reddish brown with a moderate fairly dense tan head. Very pleasant aroma of malt with some caramel sweetness, prunes, and raisins. The flavor is excellent with ample chewy sweet malt, prunes, dates, and raisins. Rich and full bodied. Luxurious on the palate. Excellent!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled in late 2012. Pours lightly cloudy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, clove, pepper, candi sugar, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of malt and fruity/spicy yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, fig, toast, toffee, biscuit, pear, apple, dark bread, light chocolate, clove, pepper, candi sugar, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, dark bread, light chocolate, biscuit, candi sugar, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Absolutely incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark malt and fruit/spicy yeast ester flavors; with an amazing malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible Quadrupel style! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of malt and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Been holding onto this for a couple years. It popped open with force, almost bubbled out of the bottle. A deep, dark reddish brown, aroma reminiscent of other outstanding quads, clove, molasses, Belgian yeast. A little alcohol, brandy. Full-bodied, sweet, a little burn. Roasty notes present. Creamy, rich. Outstanding.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber, with a rocky off-white head. Dark dried fruits (raisin, date, prune), candy sugar, belgian yeast, spice, roasted nuts, aged sherry, toffee, and with a long, dry finish. Abv is hidden, just a pleasant warmth. Very good quad, I will definitely buy more of this.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Alesmith tasting room. Wood brown in color with a small head. Smells really good. Oaky, malty, vanilla notes. Taste is super smooth... creamy low carbonation level but not flat... the taste really sticks to your taste buds. I love that about alesmith beers... Anyway. Taste is great as well. Rich maltiness, balanced by a nice hoppiness, really oakey, peat, moss and light vanilla. The high alcohol content is hidden well. Overall very enjoyable... Maybe someone will send me a bottle

Big thanks to Sparky for sharing this. The 750mL bottle pours a nice clear mahogany with a thin tan head of foam. The aroma is inviting with some thick malts, prunes and dates as well as a bit of raisin like dark fruity esters. The taste begins with a nearly creamy mouth feel offering up smooth sweet prunes and brown sugar covered dates and raisins. This is a smooth yummy and rich brew with only the slightest rough around the edges sensation which tells me the room for improvement with age is kind of small. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to age a few. Lovely Quad.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Capped 750 from Nugget Market in Davis, CA. Pours dark ruddy copper with a 3 finger creamy dark beige head. Aromas of treacle, dark fruit and maybe hop. Or not. Arguably full bodied. Flavor is very dark, enhanced by the ABV, and is imaginable as super dark fruit cake. There’s a light heat/spice combo burn. Every quaff is an interesting cycle of flavors and mouthfeel. I think I even get chocolate occasionally. Truly fantastic ale.The finish is not dry, but that would be wrong. It’s not overly sweet either. Seems just right.
