Now, seventeen years after we started, we’re proud to present another great addition in this ongoing series. AleSmith Decadence® 2012 is a big Belgian-style quadruple ale. A variety of Belgian malts impart notes of bread and ripe fruit with subtle hints of cloves and molasses. Its creamy mouthfeel is balanced by a rich, full-bodied finish. This rare offering is meant to be savored and will age nicely.

Bottle. Thanks for sharing, Aaron! Nutty dark ruby amber, sweet up front; slick, long sticky finish but by no means cloying. Toffee, dark fruits, oxidation.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 My Bottom Line:
Masterfully-sculpted raisins morph into dark chocolate stuffed with date sugar in this most elegant, succulent Quadrupel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the dark brown and its mahogany sheen.
-The aroma and flavor profile are so refined in this one; absolutely glorious definition.
-This may not be as effervescent as the Quads I know and love, but it doesn’t detract from the pure pleasure of sipping to be had.
-The finish is pure malt bliss.

Bottle. Pours a deep, rich , clear red brown color with creamy beige head. Aroma of subtle sweet malts, candi, cherries, plums and raisins - nothing short of the best Belgian strong dark ales (St.Bernardus, Rochefort, Westvleteren). Flavor is malty, chewy fruity notes, dried figs and raisins, just a hint of molasses, light belgian yeast spice. Alcohol is felt but not smelled or tasted, just perfectly warming. Quite a surprise, a great one at that.

Bottle. Dark brown with ruby tints and a thin off white head. Aroma is nutty with hints of cherry and bread. Taste follows suit with a very strong alcoholic punch. Medium mouthfeel. Not bad but the alcohol is a little overwhelming.

Bottle, pours black with white head, couple inches in size, with nice lacing. Aromas and flavor of brown sugar, hops, spice, and clove. As it warmed some rye bread and caramel malting is evident. Medium body. Nice yeast profile.

dark brown with a light tan head that reduces to to a cap. nose is fairly clean, hints of yeast and pitted fruit. taste begins with sweetness and ripe cherry, plum, continues to mold to toffee and caramel. body is creamy... should have bought more.

750ml bottle. Poured a dark brown color, almost black, with a smaller sized off white head. Dark fruits, molassess, some spices, some brown sugar in the tastes, and caramel. Overall the alcohol content well hidden.

   AROMA 9/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 10/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 18/20

Outstanding nose of champagne, dried fruit, bready yeast and floral notes. Very long and dry palate. Kind of sparkles in the glass; it’s that special. Malts are the show, with a dry alcohol more than compensated for by molasses and sweet, ripe cherries, plums, apricots and peaches. Wonderful beer.

Traded bottle. Pours like a fairly classic quad: dark but not opaque brown with a spotty tan head. Aroma is also true to form with dark malt and dark fruit plus a hint of spice and molasses. Thanks for re-brewing this so I don’t have to try and find a 2005. Flavor mimics the aroma but finishes with just a hint of booze which is actually impressive considering the 12 ABV. It finishes a little sticky sweet which might mellow a touch with age. Nice and true to style.
