COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now, seventeen years after we started, we’re proud to present another great addition in this ongoing series. AleSmith Decadence® 2012 is a big Belgian-style quadruple ale. A variety of Belgian malts impart notes of bread and ripe fruit with subtle hints of cloves and molasses. Its creamy mouthfeel is balanced by a rich, full-bodied finish. This rare offering is meant to be savored and will age nicely.

Bottle, 75cl, at RBNG-14 Grand Tasting. An almost clear one, brown in color and with a small beige head. Lightly roasted aroma with some dried fruits and caramel. Some burnt notes and fennel. The flavor has the same roasted malts and caramel, a nice bitterness too. Full body, pleasant carbonation and semi-dry. Quite roasted finish with caramel and with a nice carbonation. Pleasant indeed. 140215

Dark amber pour with a small khaki head. Rich dark fruit and brown sugar aromas. Nice clove spiciness, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol, and caramel sweetness. The flavor is sweet, but well balanced. Good roast and chocolate notes to go along with the dark fruit, caramel, and brown sugar. A bit of yeast, spice, and alcohol on the finish.

Nose is earthy, dark fruit peel, toffee, biscuit crumble, light spice, cocoa nibs, wooded notes. Taste comprises spice, wood must, fruit cake, yeast trace, prunes, bitter notes, light funk. Capped 750 from Nugget Market in Davis, CA. Pours dark ruddy copper with a 3 finger creamy dark beige head. Aromas of treacle, dark fruit and maybe hop. Or not. Arguably full bodied. Flavor is very dark, enhanced by the ABV, and is imaginable as super dark fruit cake. There’s a light heat/spice combo burn. Every quaff is an interesting cycle of flavors and mouthfeel. I think I even get chocolate occasionally. Truly fantastic ale.The finish is not dry, but that would be wrong. It’s not overly sweet either. Seems just right.
