COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now, seventeen years after we started, we’re proud to present another great addition in this ongoing series. AleSmith Decadence® 2012 is a big Belgian-style quadruple ale. A variety of Belgian malts impart notes of bread and ripe fruit with subtle hints of cloves and molasses. Its creamy mouthfeel is balanced by a rich, full-bodied finish. This rare offering is meant to be savored and will age nicely.

> High boost chocolate covered strawberry style Quad

[ Bottle ][ 750mL ][ Jank Bottle Shop Solana Beach ][ $17 ][ Crooked Stave Globe ][ 7.11.14 ]
>> Pours clear sepia core, deep red edges. Massive creamy yellow head. Nose is chocolate covered strawberry, vanilla, slight metallic, white chocolate mousse. Taste is dusty, metallic, papery, milk chocolate, rum soaked strawberry, milk chocolate covered strawberry. Rum cake finish. It’s pretty damn good, just not my style: sweet, red, high boost. Cleans up as it warms, good stuff.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma of bready notes, Belgian spices, and dark fruits - smells like a traditional quad. Flavour brings out candied sugar, bready malts, dark fruits, and a touch of toffee. Very authentic tasting, i.e. Belgian-esque. Not as epic and complex as the classic Belgian quads, but pretty damn close. Finishes on notes of Belgian yeast and bready malt. Very well-balanced and designed. Excellent stuff.

Bottle via trade, shared at Craft Clerko. It pours clear deep red-brown with a small beige head. The nose is soft, juicy, toasted brown sugars, caramel, dried fruits, plum, date, prune wood, bourbon, touch of ginger, umami character and dark malty tang. The taste is bitter, earthy. Toasty, pretty sweet, juicy, toasted sugars, plum, prune, candy, good alcohol boost, banana bread and fruit cake with a smooth, sweetish finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Punchy, but pretty tasty also.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, ruby red dark brown pour with creamy tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, raisins, hints of molasses, anise, dark fruits with some fig in there as well, some hints of oak, nice spice with clove, ginger, hints of cinnamon. Taste is a mix of sweet raisin, rum soaked raisin, hints of toffee, caramel, molasses, some anise, touch of raisin, finishing sweet, spicy.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 My Bottom Line:
Masterfully-sculpted raisins morph into dark chocolate stuffed with date sugar in this most elegant, succulent Quadrupel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the dark brown and its mahogany sheen.
-The aroma and flavor profile are so refined in this one; absolutely glorious definition.
-This may not be as effervescent as the Quads I know and love, but it doesn’t detract from the pure pleasure of sipping to be had.
-The finish is pure malt bliss.

Bottles.

750ml bottle, shared by tmoney99. Clear lighter brown color. Good thin off-white head, little lace. Bigger body. Lighter, smooth carbonation, kind of crisp. Some cinnamon, dark fruit, some wood. Spicy taste, light bitter, minimal sweet. Mostly spicy and light bitter. Nice cherry, little dates. Very good, complex flavor profile. Little warmth or bite, but that doesn’t bother me at all. Super nice stuff. Would love to enjoy more than a sample of this.. Maybe in the future, with a bit of age

750 bottle. Pours hazy dark chestnutty ruby with off-tan head. Nose is a complex mix of dark ripe fruit including cherry, fig, spicy clovey notes, molasses, funky yeasty hints. Tastes complex, rich, with a lot of ripe fig and cherry notes, some funky yeasty malt, and finishing spice. This one is top notch.

2013-08-16. Nice dark mahogany brown body and tan head. Sweet malty aroma has sugary notes, caramel and dry malt accents. 7+ Flavour is sweet, sugary notes and fruity Belgian character. Smooth average plus bodied palate. Simple but lovely. At Campground Brewdown.

Sampled this at Campground Brewdown 2. Pours a deep brown with a thin to medium sized beige to tan head. Warm and woody, lots of chocolate and fruit. Tart acid and some molasses. Old brown sugar, tons of sweetness and cocoa.

On tap at Alesmith. Pours with a clear bronze hued body with a tan head that lasts. Aromas are of big malt, alcohol, raisins, lightly spicy phenols, grain, plums, rich, light molasses, melanoidins, toffee. Despite all this decadence it still smells relatively dry. Flavors are rich and boozy with plums, brown sugar, molasses and rich esters. Richly malty, and decadent. Boozy, but with a relatively dry finish. Well made.
