You can smell the alcohol, the spices are perfect, IBU is very low imo, which is good, the aftertaste is smooth, not harsh. Could use a little more sweetness, not sure if anyone else agrees but I even taste a hint of pepper?I love this beer!

750mL bottle purchased at Nugget in Davis (Covell). The aroma on this is rather rich and complex. Vinous characteristics, sweet brown sugar, pitted fruits and raisins all come together nicely. Light chocolate and light anise are also there. Mostly transparent dark garnet colored body with a small, beige head. Starts a bit sweet with some caramel flavoring. Becomes rather fruity with raisins and perhaps some leathery notes in the middle. Nice toastiness with a slight roastiness is also present. Belgian yeast esters come through after this, which impart a bit of a dry, banana, and dusty flavoring. Finishes is long and roasted. Ethanol is subdued. This is appropriately named.

750 mL bottle from the Best Damn Beer Shop in San Diego, served in a snifter. Pours clear mahogany with a moderate tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose there are big notes of molasses and toasted malts, along with raisins, figs and plum. Belgian style yeast comes through, along with subtle spice. The flavour is moderately sweet with a complex blend of malty notes including dark fruit, molasses, chocolate and raisins. There are also notes of earth, spice and subtle pepper. The finish is long, toasty and subtly spicy. On the palate it is full in body with a silky smooth texture and soft carbonation. Overall this is a beautiful quadrupel with complex roasty malts and a creamy texture. An excellent brew that would reward some aging. 2013-03-18

750 ml Bottle. Dark brown and crimson colored with a cap of beige foam and bubbles. Lots of candi sugars, ripe banana and dark fruits in the aroma along with some plum and caramel in the background. The taste opens up with a dose of Belgian yeast, brown sugar and oak followed by notes of currant, molasses and black cherry. The body is silky smooth with moderate carbonation and heavily malted, alcohol-warming finish. A suitably decadent Quad with plenty of balance between all the rich flavors.
