COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now, seventeen years after we started, we’re proud to present another great addition in this ongoing series. AleSmith Decadence® 2012 is a big Belgian-style quadruple ale. A variety of Belgian malts impart notes of bread and ripe fruit with subtle hints of cloves and molasses. Its creamy mouthfeel is balanced by a rich, full-bodied finish. This rare offering is meant to be savored and will age nicely.

Right on with a very quizical nose. Gasoline? Funk? Along with the usual suspects. Coffee, toffee, caramel on the palate. Mild carbonation, bubble bath foamy head hang time minute plus on the pour. Really nice taste, and slightly sticky mouthfeel. ABV hits you after, not during the drink. No booze in the aftertaste. Nice job Alesmith!

Bouteille 750ml.

750 ml bottle purchased about 13 months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($13.99). Opens a near-gusher then pours a lovely garnet hue with almost three fingers of crackling tan foam. AROMA of buttered dark bready malts, rich toffee, sticky dark fruit, port wine, Belgian yeast, with noticeable tangy spice. FLAVOR of rich toffee and caramel, sweet grains, raisin and holiday candied fruit, a little chocolate, brown sugar, and finishing with some spice. A fair amount of sweetness as I would hope for in a quad, but far from cloying. The huge alcohol is well concealed, though does have a very noticeable warming effect. Overall the beer has a lighter mouthfeel than the 12% would imply. Another excellent anniversary effort from the always great Alesmith, and one of the best American-made quads I have had. (134, 844)

Pours deep mahogany into a Trappist glass. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Molasses, brown bread and dark alcohol-soaked pit fruit aromas. Sweet caramel and clove upfront turning hot raisin brown bread and chocolate in the lasting finish.

Bottle, thnx to bytemesis. Really looking forward to this one. Pours a clear brownish beer with a very small tanned head on top. Aroma is quite boozy, very malty, light chocolate, malty and touches of caramel and Belgian yeast. Flavor is sweet, boozy, defintely some age detected, Very complex full bodied beer. Bottle. Dark brown pour with some red hues and a very large and creamy tan head. Aroma is dense, clean spices with light clove, slight roast (even smokey at points) and dark malt with bready notes as well as darker fruit notes like plum and fig. Taste is very clean with heavy dark fruit notes, spices, minimal clove, slight bitterness from the alcohol, and darker molasses through the finish. Clean, coating, and smooth mouthfeel. Exceptionally balanced and clean for such a large beer. This is great stuff and certainly worthy of a second bottle for the cellar.
