4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2013 750ml Bottle. Pours with with medium carbonation providing a two inch tan finely bubbled head that dissolves to reveal nice lacing. The beer is dark amber, but despite itís darkness is not cloudy. The aroma is not intense but is more than adequate and provides rich notes of carmel, honey, and dark baked bread. The taste is amazing having a slight slight hop bitterness mixed with a little burnt carmel bitterness. The main component of the taste comes from the substantial malt backbone, providing tastes of chocolate, honey, and dark baked bread. The palate has medium body and slightly sticky. The finish provides lingering light sweetness of carmel and chocolate. I am going to purchase as much of this beer as I can get! A great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Vibrant mahogany with a creamy 1 inch beige head. Have to admit this was a complete miss for me - made me think of an imperial lagger with some malt, lots of stale caramel, somewhat nutty, high carbonation, moderate body, off finish. O well.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Murky caramel red pour with a healthy froth of tan foam. Dense doughy malt with spice and lingering sweetness in the aroma. Taste is sweet malt with raisin, dough, spice and light bitterness in the middle, and lingering sweetness with a touch of alcohol into the finish. Smooth, lightly coating mouthfeel. Drinks fairly clean for such a big, malt heavy beer. Impressive. Love to see Alesmith tackle these different styles of beer in this series.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Not totally crazy about this one. Big malts, caramel, some dark fruit, some hops and yeast. Sweet, a bit cloying on the mouth, big body. Pouts a gorgeous brown red, with a slightly red head. Overall just a bit too simple for my tastes, and Iím just not crazy on the style to be honest.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from Woodmans in Waukesha, shared with ck1 and my other brother. Pours an orangey brown with a spongey orange-white head. Aroma has caramel nuts and lemons, with some stone fruits. Taste is of heavy caramel, slightly nutty and smooooth. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly and with some length. Solid dopplebock - not sure what is decadent about it but am aging one to see. ck1 says 13/14.
