4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2013 750ml Bottle. Pours with with medium carbonation providing a two inch tan finely bubbled head that dissolves to reveal nice lacing. The beer is dark amber, but despite it’s darkness is not cloudy. The aroma is not intense but is more than adequate and provides rich notes of carmel, honey, and dark baked bread. The taste is amazing having a slight slight hop bitterness mixed with a little burnt carmel bitterness. The main component of the taste comes from the substantial malt backbone, providing tastes of chocolate, honey, and dark baked bread. The palate has medium body and slightly sticky. The finish provides lingering light sweetness of carmel and chocolate. I am going to purchase as much of this beer as I can get! A great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From the March 2014 Pittsburgh Ratebeer gathering. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a red-brown color with a huge foamy orange-white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweetish and malty with a bit of sour caramel. The flavor was tangy, sour and malty with a touch of toffee and faint vegetal malts. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
This one poured a ruby red color with a beige head. Aroma was of toasted malts, caramel, light smoke and grassy hops. Falvor was similar, big and chewy and caramely, mild alcohol, and grainy notes. Just bland for the most part. Alesmith usually nails styles that I usually dont like very well, but this one is a bit disappointing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of dark bread, sweet malt, nuts, toffee, and raisins. Decent pour of mahogany with a slight head. Extremely smooth and well balanced, yet lacking in anything to distinguish it from any other premium doppelbock. Very good flavor, somewhat sweet, nice noble hop spiciness, very bready. Full bodied, sticky texture, soft carb., and sweet, long finish. Goes down easy for 10% abv, I would recommend but only if you like the style.
