Draught. Poured dark brown with a thick near white head. Roasty aroma with a lekker chocolate note. Full bodied with much roast malt notes. Some toast in the finish
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Guerde (1077) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - MAR 26, 2013
(bomber from bhensonb) Pours a reddish brown color with a massive off-white head that leaves a ton of web-like lacing on the glass. Looks like a rootbeer float when poured. Aroma holds a whole lot of goodness. Toasted hazelnuts and perhaps walnut, raspberry (seeing the carb plus this smell makes me think it could be infected), toasted malt, and must. Perhaps some oatmeal raisin cookie as well. It’s strange, but I enjoy it. The flavor refutes my previous convictions of infection, as it’s nothing but an even-keeled journey through roast, cocoa, and toasted nut territory, with no whirlpools of tartness to be found. Light roasted coffee flits in and livens the party. The finish is a nice tone of roastiness which lingers well on after consumption. This is by far one of the best, if not the best, brown ale I’ve ever had. Considering who brewed it this comes as no surprise. Again I’m reminded of the quality beers Alesmith churns out on a regular basis, and no matter the style, they’re always top notch efforts. Thanks for sending this Bill!

Sampled at the BA Spoedway release. This version had a touch more fruit forward, but was drier on the palate. A bit more toasted nuts as well. I could drink a lot of this beer. Another winner.

It has a dark amber brown color with a small head in the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts and a touch of sweetness. Flavor has more malt up front and then some walnuts and a touch of sweetness like some roasted fruit. Great finish.

Taster on tap at AleSmith: Cloudy brown color with a medium light tan head. Aroma is toasty and nutty with hints of fruit. Flavor starts malty and nutty (the nuttiness is sharper like walnut) followed by light caramel sweetness, some fruit and a dry, lightly bitter finish. The palate is medium and smooth with moderate carbonation.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 shadey (1768) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 18, 2012
22oz bottle, purchased at BOTW in NY. Dark brown with a nice creamy head of lace. Extremely malty aroma. Nutty and light caramel. Flavors are well-blended. Dark malt, lightly roasted. Nice hope dryness in the finish.

Bottle via StefanJ the stoic! Pours a medium brown with some light ruby tones on edges. Thin tight tan head. Singular tones of earthy malts are low key in both nose and mouthfeel. A touch of bready cocoa in center of reservedly sweet malt focused beer. An unassuming companion as I paint my stairwell and upstairs landing/hallway.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ibrew2or3 (5823) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Bottle pours clear deep amber with thin copper edges and a tan head. The aroma is pretty big with sweet malts, roasted malts, sweet nuttiness and a touch of earthiness. The taste delivers fairly rich roasted malts, nuttiness, earthiness and a dash of burnt malts. It gets more and more roasty to midway and into the finish. Nice roasty brown ale. Yummers.
