drewbeerme (1782), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 26, 2007 Updated: Oct 28, 2007 growler, thanks to Jon (WeeHeavySD)! pours dense dark ruby with big creamy tan head. nose has big citrusy and piney with toasty and sweet caramelly malt notes. flavor is rich with fresh citrusy hop notes along with big nutty malty finish and a very mild chocolate in the very end of the finish. sweet and citrusy but a watery finish. smooth carbonation. perhaps I’m expecting beers with this much complexity to not be this drinkable or seemingly this thin/watery. i’m begining to see how delicate AleSmith beers are. never really had anything like it. i think this could benefit with a bit more body and up the alcohol to 7-7.5%abv (but i guess that’s more what Decadence 06 was). however, it’s still a really tasty hopped up red ale and a wonderful session ale.

Dark red/brown with a 1 finger off white head. Smell is sweet candy sugar, medium piney hops and a slight subdued caramel. Taste starts with a sweet caramel note then the hops jump out. Nice mellow pine hops that really stand out. Would love to know what hop this is. Mouthfeel is creamy with a dry finish at the end. Jmichael (532), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Dec 18, 2007 pours a flat dark amber brown. sweet malty sweet sugar, light and smooth, not too heavy. dry finish. sweet and malty with a low complexity to it, good. dalekliz (151), San Diego, California, USA Dec 5, 2007 Growler from the brewery. Deep red-brown color, with a good-sized light head. Complex flavors of hops, malt, and citrus. Taste fades away smoothly, changing into a bit of a sharp bite at the end. Very nice ale. wetherel (976), Carlsbad, California, USA Nov 21, 2007 On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Very red dark amber color. 1 finger creamy head. Well balanced sweetness and hops. Nice hop flavor with low hop bitterness. Decent session ale. ajm (304), USA Nov 11, 2007 No Killian’s, for sure! My simple mind classifies this as somewhat sweeter than the AleSmith IPA, with a little added dry coffee finish. An absolute joy on tap.
