AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Pour mahogany with a nice beige head great lace. Aroma grape juice, raisins, dark fruits, chocolate, candy sugar, yeast. Taste more dark fruit, raisins, a touch metallic, Belgian yeast, candy sugar. MF pretty full body mild carb. Pretty good Belgian but I’ve had better. Thanks JSPrime for share :D

750 mL bottle from Total Wine in Tucson, served in a Trappist glass. Pours hazy reddish with a moderate tan head. The head remains and leaves a small amount of lace. The nose has big notes of molasses and a hint of grapes, along with a touch of clove and pepper. The flavour is moderately sweet with flavours carried through from the aroma. The finish is long and malty. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and minimal texture. Overall, an excellent Belgian style ale with ample complexity and a nice aroma. Worth another try. 2011-04-09

Bottle from Ørsted; 10% ABV
Mahogany color, dark, with small sized creamy head. Nice aroma of caramel, mature, with a light scent of dark fruits, vanilla and wood. Bold structure; strong caramel and malt flavor, quite sweet, with a light fruitiness and some late liquorice; low bitterness; in the final the alcohol warmth is clearly perceived (maybe too much). Similar to many common Strong Ales from Belgium, nothing spectacular, but a solid brew indeed.

Aroma : Nice belgian yeast with notes of red fruits. quyite nutty. A bit floral.
Taste : Light floral hops with belgian yeast and light dry fruits. Quite nutty.

Scopey (1183) - Croydon, Surrey, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2011
Bottle from Whole Foods Tribeca. It pours a clear dark red-brown colour with a large foamy white head. The nose is very, very fruity: date, plum, cherry, raisin, cranberry, wood and a little spearmint. The taste is dried cranberry and cherry, raspberry, date, prune, plum and towards the end there is some caramel, vanilla and a little chocolate. The alcohol is well hidden, which makes for an easy drinking and very well balanced strong ale. Wow Alesmith make top quality beer!

The beer pours medium brown with tons of carbonation. The head rises a good 4 fingers of light tan head, decently creamy. The retention is nice lasting several minutes. The lacing is very nice as well. The aroma is medium, smells must like any other belgian dark ale, light hops, some carmel. The taste is ok light malts on the front, some alcohol on the back. The feel is a little light for my liking, but drinkable.
