COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

OK, I think I kinda like this one. Dark copper with a lasting creamy topper. Clove, pepper and brown sugar lead the stampede of aroma out of the glass. Rich fruit greets my tastebuds; shake hands with plum, raison and some slightly overcooked english toffee. A note of sherry plays in the background. Chewy, long and complex finish. Glorious.

Bottle from Ryan, pours a reddish brown with a thin white head. Aroma of cherry, nuts, light spice and malt. Taste is some Belgian yeast, some light caramel and vanilla notes, nice light fruit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

June 14, 2013 - bottle from Everett’s. Clear brown pour with nice head that faded quickly and spotty lacing. Foamed up nicely with a gentle swirl. Aroma was vanilla, caramel and spice. Taste was consistent with aroma but also had some light chocolate notes. Smooth and medium bodied. First bottle to kickoff Alesmith night.

On tap @ Bambino’s. Pours dark brownish amber with thin head. Aroma is sweet slightly spicy caramel malt. Taste is big syrupy sweet caramel malt and mild Belgian yeast notes. Somewhat lacking nuance but this is a really solid beer. High abv is easily notable. Take on a full bottle of this at your own risk.

Rating #700. Brown hazy colour. big aroma with a fruit preserve quality mixed with cherry pie and a boozy whiskey and burnt sugar note. very complex aroma. Big beer with a never ending finish and fruity and juicy flavours that have a leather and fruit jam quality. Very fresh beer even if this one was a few years old. Amazing.

750ml bottle. Tons of slightly soured red fruit on the nose with burnt sugar. The same notes take over the palate. Fantastic stuff for sure.

On tap at RIBCO, pours a clear dark brown with an off white head and some lacing in the glass, the aroma is really sweet with a lot of malt and caramel with a little bit of dark fruit and candy sugar, the flavor has some dark fruit on the front end with a sweet caramel and chocolate like finish, for sure a sipper, I enjoyed this .

2003 Vintage. Poured a brown-ruddy color with a small wispy head. Aroma is smooth malts, some age on it noticeable. Aroma is smooth malts. Flavor is aged malts, not quite soy, but too much longer and it would have hit that level. Glad to have tried this one.

Dark amber pour, almost nonexistent beige head. Aroma of candysugar and belgian yeast. Citrusy, malty and toasty taste, very type-standarized. Still very good, but not anything special.
