Arayaga2 (729), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2008 Placid, headless, semi-opaque and mahogany in appearance with a tiny bit of yeast sediment. Aroma is mild with sweet sherry notes and raisins. Taste is same, with faint oxidation and slightly sour vinous quality with chocolate notes in the finish, and no detectable hop presence. Decent, but a small let-down for rating #700 $10/750mL
beachbum25 (577), Powellville, Maryland, USA Jun 21, 2008 750 ML Bottle-Clear brownish color w/almost no head. Good belgian aroma. This one was pretty hot, very strong alcohol presence which really overpowered everything else. Had some dark fruit, some cane sugar, but alcohol was just too strong, this thing needed some age on it to mellow out, which was a surprise as I got these in a trade w/snojerk321 @ six months ago. I’d have to call this one a disappointment. MrBendo (965), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle I bought last year in Ohio, which probably makes it about 12 months old. Hazy ruby/orange color with a medium head. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, cherries and pears. Mostly sweet with a spicy finish. Medium/heavy body. BlackDonald (610), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jun 16, 2008 An extremely well done BSA. Beautiful pour with an ample two finger head, nicely frothy, with some really pretty lacing. Lots of strong dark fruit flavors in the nose. moderately yeasty, with a strong matlitness, that is somewhat tart at times with great carbonation and acidity. Just dry enough on the palate, with a creamy texture that keeps me coming back sip after sip and wanting another bottle. This beer makes you selfish. I loved it! BlackForestCO (463), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle shared by a friendly local. Poured a deep amber color with a thin beige head that faded to a ring. Aroma consists of a light, sweet maltiness, moderate fruit, and some yeast. Lightly tart, sweet entry with some moderate fruitiness (apple, light green grapes) leading into a lightly dry, yeasty finish. Smooth, lightly dry on the palate. May have been an off bottle, because I have heard better things. highibus (209), Vail, Arizona, USA Jun 13, 2008 On tap at 1702 nice chestnut color with off white head. great lacing. aroma is sweet and a little funky. flavor is a little funky too, didn’t know it was. but i like it a lot. a nice finish s well
