COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Pour is a clear, dark reddish brown with a bubbly off white head. Lots of candy sugar and dark fruits up front on the nose, slight booziness, dark fruits like cherry and plum, and slightly piney. A nice cherry taste up front, some vanilla, sweet belgian yeast, there is suprisingly subtle chocolate flavor, some alcohol, and caramel.

750ml bottle @jookos, thanks! Copper color, thin white head. Alcohol soaked dried fruits in aroma, raisins. Flavor has bready malt, dark fruits, sweetness, raisins and plums. Heavy stuff. Quite boozy.

Pours a crystal clear body (i.e. served properly, according to the commercial description) with a medium amber colour. The head is rather small, has the colour of eggnog and laces the glass well. Sweet, malty and quite strong aroma of dark dried fruits, sweet caramel, Belgian yeast and wood. Strong flavour of dark dried fruits (prunes), generic fresh fruits, brown sugar and liquorice. Moderate sweet taste with a moderate bitter long-lasting finish. Full-bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A good one, but for the first time when tasting a beer from AleSmith I canít claim that itís one of the best beers Iíve ever had.

Bottle, newish vintage. Reddish brown. Belgy dubbel- like yeastyness, dark bread malts, clove, spices on nose. Full bodied, soft, tasty. Dark bready, dark nutty, estery, herby. A lot going on here, definitely not a boring pour. Well carbonated, feels like quite a light digestion, hard to believe the abv printed on the bottle. Interesting, sort of a light textured, complex, dubbel. With a lot of abv.

Bottled, 2011 vintage. Deep ruby color, thin soapy head. Complex and delicate aroma of an aged beer. Lots of dried fruits like dates and raisins, sour cherries, acidic red currants, a touch of herbs. A hint of chocolatey malts too, maybe a hint of vanilla. Slightly caramelly flavor, loads of dried fruits(almost woody). Dry, berryish and acidic finish with dark chocolate and caramel. Berryish/leathery late aftertaste. Medium body, lots of carbonation but it works. Very well aged and delicious.

750 ml bottle. 2013 vintage. Hazy orange amber color with lasting head retention. Aroma is damn fine. Belgian candy sugar, dried fruits, raisins, figs and yeast.

The flavor is Just and nice as the aroma. Tons of dried fruits and candy sugar up front followed by a nice thick yeasty character. Shows some raisin and dates in the finish. The alcohol is not found much in the flavor but does after the nice warming sensation after the swallow. Overall, for and American made Belgian brew this is really impressive.

This is a great beer. 1300! Pours brown, clear lots of head minimal lacing. Nose is vanilla and toffee. Flavours of same plus maybe some tobacco, some fruit plums plums some tangyness. Taste is med/light sweet light bitter. Medium somewhat creamy body with medium carbonation. Alcohol well hidden, dangerously drinkable for strength.

from 750mL, 2-3 years old Really cloudy brown red pour with very little beige head. Deep but smooth sour scent; cherry, apple, and dark fruits. Tar-y molasses, carmel and cinnamon as well. Soft carbonation, mouthfeel is slightly acidic but thick, astringent finish. Boozy flavor, some peat and brown sugar or molasses, yeast wheatiness, banana esters. Very strong, malt-forward belgian with wine scotch/scottish ale elements. A little watery, may have been better with less age.
