COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Very strong brown sugar / carmel flavor. Very tight champagne like bubbles. The worst thing about this beer was that I only had one bottle. This beer made me want more. Very smooth and enjoyable to drink.

Aroma- Sweet dark fruits, some vanilla, burnt sugars Appearance- Clear toasted brown with a big fluffy tan head that lasts with nice drippy lacing. Flavor- Starts of tangy, then the creamy caramel and vanilla start in. Very complex with lots going on with this beer.

OK, I think I kinda like this one. Dark copper with a lasting creamy topper. Clove, pepper and brown sugar lead the stampede of aroma out of the glass. Rich fruit greets my tastebuds; shake hands with plum, raison and some slightly overcooked english toffee. A note of sherry plays in the background. Chewy, long and complex finish. Glorious.

A really easy-drinking champagne-like Belgian from AleSmith. What a coup it was picking this up when we visited the brewery in November. Love this one!

Thanks to Harlequinn for trading. No year. Deep ruby. Dense, fizzy, light tan head settles quickly. Nose: rich, roasty, caramelly malt, dark fruits, vanilla, lively yeast with just a touch of funk to it, some dough, subtle alcohol. Flavor: toasted grains, rich malt, toffee, dark fruits, same yeast, candi sugar, alcohol, cashews, bittersweet anise, other subtle herbal or plant like notes, and some crisp hops towards the dry, yeasty, roasty, alcoholic finish. Full/medium, smooth body is very dry and airy in the center with roasty creaminess surrounding. Clean, dry aftertaste leaves you wanting more. My favorite style, AleSmith doesn’t disappoint.

This is an aged, 2004 vintage bottle that I’ve been sitting on for a while... Appears a faintly transparent dark amber with a small light tan head that fades to a small cap. Scattered lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of spicey Belgian yeast, vanilla, doughy, light orange, sugary candy, and coriander. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a warming syup, brown sugar, along with cocoa, and vanilla. Mouthfeel is chewy, syrupy, with brown sugar, mildly spiced, and full bodied. Delicious.

BOTTLE: Clear then cloudy amber color with thick, fast beige head. Sweet sugary aroma. Flavor is strong, flavorful and lingering with a long dry finish at the end. Excellent!

The Alesmith Grand Cru was a very nice treat indeed. The dark belgian strong ale poured a very nice caramel color with a head that left rather quickly. There was a decent amount of "fizzle" in the pour from the carbonation. The aroma was nice--plenty of whiskey like aromas with some dark fruits mixed in--complex to be sure. The taste is the same. Plenty of big flavors that you need to take your time to work through. The main tastes are of caramel malt, dark fruit, bourbon, and molasses I would say. I really enjoyed the interesting taste. This was very easy to drink as it warmed--and would make a great sipper in the evening."

Pours an ultra-cloudy, heavy particulate-filled almond colour. The particles are huge, a settle to the bottom of the glass quickly. Smells like thanksgiving in a glass, with marshmallow covered sweet potato and chocolate truffles filled with fruit. Like candy. The characteristic The taste is smokey and fruity, with a good amount of alcohol coming through. The palate is crisp, with medium carbonation, and warming.
