COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Bottle, purchased last summer, not really sure which vintage. Aroma of raisins, doughy Belgian yeast, caramel malt. Flavor the same, maybe some chocolate in there too, but just a basic Belgian Strong to me with few intricacies, and too sweet for my liking as well. Ok at best for me.

Dark ruby, light tan head. Spiced aroma, nutty, dry yeast. Belgian aroma. Taste is sharp from alcohol, bit boring otherwise. Not expressive enough. Warming aftertaste. Not as good as hoped. Too little sweetness. Some (At the De Molen tasting)

Bottle - tasted at ølbaren - thanks to Martin (Plan B). Unclear red/brown (Conker - Kastanje-rød). Ryebread, very sweet, candy, high carbonated, i dont think i understand this one, i don’t really hate it, but on the other hand i don’t really like it....!?!

75cl bottle from 2006. Deep amber pour. Sweet aroma of sugary malts and alcohol. Smooth mouthfeel with warm flavors of toffee, caramel, and dark fruits. Just too much sweetness in this one and not enough complexity for my liking

Not a great beer at all, not terrible, I wouldnt buy it again. I was expecting substantially more. Only alesmith beer i have ever hated. just too big and bold with rasin and esters and fruit and phenols. had almost a rotten fruit taste. did not care for it.
