AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

750mL 2012.

75cl bottle served in a Prearis glass. Pours a wonderful translucent dark brown colour with a bubbly off white head which lasts well. Aroma is spicy, yeasty and dark fruits. Taste is hugely complex with sweet fruit preserve, toffee and malty spiciness giving way to a late bitterness. Medium mouthfeel but perfect for the style with good carbonation. Exactly what you would expect for a Belgian style beer brewed the American way. All the subtleness and well balanced flavours of a Belgian ale cranked up to 11.

fantastic and easy drinking. bready, molasses aroma. taste is of fruitcake, candied dark fruits, marzipan, caramel apple, and chocolate covered orange peel. slight citrusy aroma and taste from the yeast. not extremely yeasty, but not very dark-malt dominated either. very complex and interesting beer. strong, but still displays a light character, ie., not overly sticky, toasted, alcoholic, hoppy, or wine-y.

Bottle bought through brill & Co. Pours goldenish brown with a creamy frothy goldenish offwhite head that leaves some thick trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and slightly estery with oatmeal, caramel, baked pears, apples, marzipan, dry soil, hay and lemon zest. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, malty and estery with oatmeal, caramel, toffee, apples, pears, marzipan, soil, hay, lemon zest and alcohol. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny tart and near full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, tiny sour, malty and estery with oatmeal, bread, apples, pears, hay, dry soil and lemon zest. Nicely balanced!

Piwo dobre z rangi Grand Cru, ale wydaje mi sie ze takie nie jest. Elegancka butelka lakierowana cacy ale srednia i opadajaca blyskawicznie pianka. Alkohol naszczescie ukryty. Kolor bordowy ale Grand Cru z Belgii to inna klasa. W smaku sliwka porzeczki nieco malim i powidel sliwkowych, do tego such piernik i rodzynki w rumie.
