Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Served cold on tap at the tasting room. Deep amber color, beige/off-white head. Aroma of fruit, toffee, cloves (?) and honey. Very smooth, warm notes of toffee, caramel, and dark fruits. Delicious.

Bottle: #1000! Up til now I’ve trying anything I can get my hands on; from now on I’ll focus on the best that I can get. AleSmith is definitely a brewery I´ll always prefer, they really make great brews with attention to detail. Prost and going for the next 1,000.

Tried on Beer Quest 2010 with all the guys. This was number 2. Pour was a hazy copper. Aroma of Alc. apple, and malts. Flavor was sweet malts. Apple. Full bodied. Slightly Alc. taste. Nice brew.

Big thanks to luttonm for this gem. Pours a murky bronze with a small head. Aroma is delicious - fresh, crisp pears, with a bit of yeasty esters. Just slightly grassy. Flavor brings out that grassiness, taking a little bit away, but this is really, really tasty. Super smooth - liking it a lot.

Bottle thanks to kegbear!
Tepid red-mahogany with a coaxed, small yellow head of bubbles. Tea and toast lead the rich malt aroma. Flavor has some nice complexity and is noticeably sweeter than the nose with bubble gum, prune, raisin, toast, some leaf, lemon, and alcohol at the end. Despite the dreary looks and thinning body, this is still quite good, particularly the nuanced flavor.

The first beer of BQ’10 purchased from half time in Poughkeepsie. Pour is deep hazy burgundy. Tastes of Belgian spice, yeast, Apples, dark malts and nuts. A bit boozy.

Had this paired with some homemade spicy lasagna and it complimented the andouille sausage ragu perfectly with its own spiciness and well-balanced body. Dark auburn pour, nice boozy warming after-affects with dark fruit flavors and some spice. Maybe my favorite Alesmith out of the line-up I’ve had so far.

Bottle [750] shared with MatSciGuy. Brightred/garnet color with a lasting fizzy head. Modest dusty aroma, caramel and dark fruit tastes. Light and spritsy on the tongue. I really like this beer - it’s got a good bit of complexity but it’s very well balanced so that no taste or aroma dominates the senses.
