Grand Cru is a dark chestnut-colored Belgian-style Ale with vibrant fermentation aromas of fruity esters and spicy phenols. A sweet caramel malt, raisin, and plum-like character combines with the complex fermentation profile of our Belgian yeast strain and hints of bittersweet chocolate in the finish. Its full body and velvety mouthfeel make for a slow and satisfying drinking experience. Grand Cru is meant to be savored and will age nicely.

I found this beer to be disappointing. Totally by coincidence, I had this after Ale Asylum Grand Cru, and given my respect for AleSmith, I was shocked that it "lost" that comparison. Both are malty versions of a belgian ale/dubbel, but the difference is that this is out of balance -- a cerealy malt dominates the subtler notes associated with a dubbel and candi sugar. Some nice toasty, minty, vanilla notes almost get lost.

Aromas of plum, alcohol, clove, apple, caramel. Clear red-bronze with a mostly lasting off-white head. A little sweet, fruity, raisiny, pretty clean. Full bodied, warming.

Aromas of bananas, some clove, tart berries and some peanuts. Light off white bubbly head and dark red body. Flavors of berries and floral grassy notes and light spices. Smooth and slightly carbonated on the palate.

Tap at ox cart. Light brown with small head. Really nice candy nose. Roasted, some fruit, oily. Super mouthfeel. Alcohol. Bubble gum. Balance is great. Finish is fast. Great beer.

Clear, brownish-red beer with an off-white head and a fruity aroma which lives up to the strength. Flavour is dried fruit, earthy malts, caramel, chocolate. Distinct but balanced brilliantly. Lingering fruity aftertaste and it’s pleasingly rich in body too. Great stuff.

Taster at the brewery. Brown-copper color with fine beige ring. Raisins, prunes, not sweet! A hint of coffee, some spices, dried fruits. A bit booze in the end, just a little bit warming. Silky mouthfeel. Superbly balanced, feels lighter than you’d expect.
