COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Horny Devil is our interpretation of a Belgian-style Golden Ale. Brewed with authentic Belgian ingredients including candi sugar and a Trappist yeast strain, its fruity and spicy aromas include notes of orange, banana, and peppercorns. Coriander seeds add refreshing citrus notes which meld seamlessly with the beer’s delicate malt. Horny Devil finishes with a lively carbonation and a refreshingly dry finish.

750 ml bottled 14 months ago, on sale at Supermarket Liquors for $6.99. Clear golden appearance with a small white head, mostly dissipating. The aroma is spicy, yeasty and grainy with notes of fruity esters, toasted malt and black pepper. Similar flavor, adding hints of banana, citrus zest and herbal hops. Medium to full body. This has held up pretty well.

Rating #1542 - 20.03.2015 - Birthday Brew Tour - On tap @ Alesmith. Clear golden pour with a giant head with decent retention. Aroma is sweet ripened banana, orange zest. Taste is definitely full bodied, medium-heavy carbonation, good yeast character, and just enough pepper, coriander to be pleasant and refreshing. Delicious.

Draft at Spacebar. Poured a mostly clear golden yellow color with a small wispy white head. Aroma was lots of booze. Lots of sugar notes, spices are light, but there. Boozy finish. Flavor was light fruits, sweet booze. Touch of coriander and peppercorn. It’s a big beer.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2015 750mL bottle, poured into a Belgian tulip. The aroma is initially slightly boozy and woody, but this fades quickly and becomes more hefeweizen in nature with aromas of banana and spice, a hint of vanilla, followed by cookie dough, sweet oranges, coriander, and tropical fruits late. It pours a rich, oily clear gold that?s effervescent and sudsy with soft, good retention and moderate lace. The syrupy texture is complimented by a fuzzy carbonation. The medium body is highly sweet and cut by medium, mellow bitter whose profile is citrus and herbal with a crisp, spicy coriander and pepper spiciness. The finish is a juicy tropical and citrus blend (banana and pineapple with tangerine seems to stand out) that lead to a mildly cloying aftertaste of waxy citrus and coriander.

Bottled on 01/06/15. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a golden yellow color with a good transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a rapidly dissipating white semi-foamy head. Lacing sticks nicely around the glass. The smell starts off with basic citrus weaving into some nice Belgian spices. Coriander becomes the main spice that ends up showing its face just a tad more. Light breadiness slides in to balance. The taste was moderately spicy with a dry sweetness claiming itself in the aftertaste and leading into a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sipping to sessionable feel about it. Carbonation runs light, but then again, that could be due to the age. Overall, this was a pretty good Belgian Strong Pale Ale that I could have again. I’ll definitely look for fresher next time.
