COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the AleSmith incarnation of a Belgian Strong Ale. Horny Devil is an authentic Belgian Style ale, from the Belgian candi sugar right down to the yeast, a Belgian strain from a Trappist monastery in Belgium. In addition to the malts, candi sugar and fresh hops, there is also a little added twist from coriander seeds, which impart a refreshing citrus flavor to an outstanding ale. Belgian ale lovers around the world have raved about Horny Devil, and you will too.

Unfortunately, one of the worst beers I’ve ever had, bottle was a few years old, I thought thus was for aging? Terrible, all coriander. Gross.

Golden pour with a white head. Aromas of sweet malta, citrus peel, banana, and yeast. Flavor is candied orange peel and banana. Sweet malts. Very easy to drink. Finish is smooth with a touch of coriander. Abv is well-hidden. Solid brew.

750 mL bottle from Total Wine, Raleigh, NC (Triangle). Golden yellowish-orange pour with a frothy white head. Belgian yeast aroma with hints of soap, coriander, and citrus. Candi sugar makes its way through in the taste with notes of orange peel, ginger, and white pepper. Some alcohol warming detected on the finish. Nice beer!

Kind of a watered down Belgian. Aroma is light in spices. Pour is a bubbly gold w/ out much of head or lacing. Taste is full of spice & rather smooth at the abv. Not too shabby!

Authentic Belgian-style ale, a little on the sweet side. Malty. Hides the ABV well. Doesn’t quite have the depth to make it a great beer. I didn’t really notice the coriander.

On tap at the Blind Lady Alehouse on the 4th of July in San Diego. Appearance: Excellent clarity in the amber body. Small but semi-durable white head. Head leaves some sticky streaks and spots on the glass. Aroma: Sweet biscuits, yeast and faint tropical notes. Flavor: Fruity, slightly tart, mildly bitter. Banana and clove evident, as is the higher ABV. Seemed to have a narrow tempeature range for optimal flavor and balance. Moderate complexity. Relatively good finish and aftertaste. Feel: Light-medium body with medium+ carbonation. ABV mostly evident. O: true Belgian style and quality.

Pours a straw yellow with a one finger white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of belgian yeast, candied fruits, cloves, banana, bready malts, light grassy hops, and white wine. Taste is similar to the aroma with notes of candied fruits, ripe banana, white wine, grassy hops, and some light booze. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, slightly bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty belgian strong ale that hides its high abv nicely.

2013 bottle, picked up off the shelf. Pours a mostly clear dark golden color with a slightly large head on it. Nose is fruitier than I expected, with a lot of citrus coming through and just a hint of some coriander. Taste is just a little sweet, as well as ever-so-slightly citrusy-sour. Drinks fresh, and feels smooth on the palate.

750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy orange color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor had caramel, tangerine, Belgian candi sugar, Belgian yeast, coriander, pale and bready malts, alcohol, and pepper. Medium-bodied with a dry finish. Decent Belgian Strong but I like some of their other stuff better..

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a tulip Pours hazy deep golden/light orange with big white head. Aroma is candy sugar, medium body, medium carbonation, and medium big bubble lacing. Taste is candy sugar, some citrus, some coriander, and some booze. Big beer with pretty big flavor, and its pretty good, but expected a little more.
