COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the AleSmith incarnation of a Belgian Strong Ale. Horny Devil is an authentic Belgian Style ale, from the Belgian candi sugar right down to the yeast, a Belgian strain from a Trappist monastery in Belgium. In addition to the malts, candi sugar and fresh hops, there is also a little added twist from coriander seeds, which impart a refreshing citrus flavor to an outstanding ale. Belgian ale lovers around the world have raved about Horny Devil, and you will too.

GABF 2005.

Sweet fruity banana bread aroma. Pours slightly cloudy yellow with a minimal white head. Great flavor, love the sweetness and the long fruity finish.

APPEARANCE - Cloudy orange with a 2-finger head that lasts. Good lacing. AROMA/SCENT - Sweet, piney, herbaceous. TASTE - Hoppy, piney, herbaceous, a little sweet. ABV well-hidden. A bit closer to an IPA than to a Belgian Ale. MOUTHFEEL/PALATE/TEXTURE - A bit of carbonation. VALUE - Reasonable. OVERALL/DRINKABILITY - Very quaffable.

clear golden colour, moderate sized white head (which is fully acceptable in the light of very high ABV); aroma of coriander, biscuit, yeast, perfume notes and hints of vegetables; taste of coriander, vegetables, yeast, spiciness (peppery notes),and maltyness - complex Belgian strong ale

September 25, 2014. Bottle at SBWF. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is sweet with candy sugar, banana, coriander yeast and dough. Taste is medium sweet with grains, candy sugar, spices and alcohol. Medium bodied, oily texture and quite soft carbonation.

Very nice beer - a bit watery in appearance, which belies the amazing taste. Surprisingly malty for such light color. Nose is like a much darker beer, rich woody notes. Taste is gobs of citrus, candi sugar and light dried fruits. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: citrus, tropical fruits, bread and grain malts, some alcohol, light vanilla. Appearance: clear yellow, very small head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: sweets continue, caramel, bread malts, light carbonation, slightly bitter in the quite long finish. Overall: very nice Belgian Strong Ale, excellent aroma and palate. Pint at AleSmith Brewing Company, San Diego.

Pours a hazy light rust orange. Aroma and taste are both very unique. Aroma has a mix of yeast and fruits. Taste has fruits, malts, spices, wheat, yeast, malts, and sugar. A dry aftertaste from the wheat and yeast.

die for, and remained my favorite aspect of this tasty brew throughout. More spices and less complicated fruity aroma than the Grand Cru. Way to easy going down for 10%, not thin or huge, but quite smooth. As with the GC, the yeast strain is just clean as a whistle. More yeast and spice in the flavor as well, but not too much, and expertly balanced. I typically do not rave over coriander beers, but this is the best one I’ve had. More than enough to notice, but it’s such a good beer, it works."
