COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the AleSmith incarnation of a Belgian Strong Ale. Horny Devil is an authentic Belgian Style ale, from the Belgian candi sugar right down to the yeast, a Belgian strain from a Trappist monastery in Belgium. In addition to the malts, candi sugar and fresh hops, there is also a little added twist from coriander seeds, which impart a refreshing citrus flavor to an outstanding ale. Belgian ale lovers around the world have raved about Horny Devil, and you will too.

Second best beer I’ve ever had (only Trappistes Rochefort 10 beats this). This truely is ’little drops of heaven. And it’s made in the good old USA! Who says American beer is no good? Make them drink this!

Bottle. Poured a cloudy amber color with no head or lacing. Amazing aroma of coriander, apricot, and maybe a little citrus to it. Excellent full mouthfeel. Complex flavor. Definite coriander start, with a strong alcohol taste to it as well. Finish is almost peach-like. A great offering from Alesmith.

"MMMMM this one was awsome. Poured a cloudy orange color with a nice head on top. Had a spicy aroma to it. Could taste the candi suger and yeast. This beer also hid the alcohol very well. AM a huge fan of this beer."

Sampled on draught. Excellent domestic example of Belgian Golden Strong Ale, ala Duvel. Pours to a slightly hazy, deep golden color with a thick, and creamy, white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very well done, with good aromas of pale malt, and peppery alcohol. The palate is firm, with more good pale malt flavor, and a nice back drop of corriander. Finishes with more good pale malt up front, then ends dry and peppery, with some alcohol heat. Great aperitif beer, and very food friendly. A nice foil to buttery or strong cheese, and a good match with beef, lamb, or game. A great beer, from a great CA brewery.

bottle, pours deep gold, white frothy white head. Corriander and light candy sugar nose that is powerfull and does not stop smelling amazing. White grape flavor with some maltyness and spice in the finish with a little bit of heat. A beautiful beer full of character.

4.5 18 (05.12.06) One pint, 9.4 oz green bottle from Liquorama. 11 %ABV. No freshness info on label. Poured clear orange with small white head. Soft carbonation. Sweet malt and spicy coriander aroma. Full bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and fresh fruit (apricot or peach), spice (coriander) flavors. Finished with light malt fade and lingering hop bitterness. Lush, smooth and well-balanced, alcohol is dangerously well-hidden in this flavorful moreish beer despite the high ABV. An exquisite ale, one of my favorite Alesmith beers.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2008 Re-rate, old bottle from JohnC strong ale 08, likely 5 years old, damn. Growler. I’ve had this beer many time but had it again last night so I thought why not rate it. This beer grows on you, and is really a fantastic brew. Pours a nice light straw with a small whit head. Very bubbly looking. The taste is extremely complex and yummy and the strength of the ale is well felt in the driking. I’m certainly a convert, although it took me a while.
