COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

This beer lives up to the hype. I tried quite a few IPA/DIPA/TIPA on Saturday and I feel this was the best overall beer and possibly the cheapest of the bunch. pours a deep golden with an orange tint. The aroma is pure hops and citrus. Smell is amazing. The taste is hops and delicious orange. it has a sweet malt flavor on the back end finished with dry hops. Very balanced and delicious. Can’t say enough about this one.

Donated by a friend in Bergen. A fantastic IPA with bout a balanced malt base and loads of citrus hops. Pours dark golden and moderate head. Relatively good masked alcohol and a great mouth feel.

Prefering Belgian Ales this is hoppy for my preference. However, it is a superb IPA. Excellent head clinging to my Sam’s glass while I file this rating. Although this may seem blasphemous I prefer Three Floyd’s Dreadnaught’s balance to malt

Orange anwith a white head. Medium aroma with a lot of citrus and grape. The medium aroma goes along the same line and ends with a lasting bitterness. It’s good, but not as good as expected, perhapps it’s somewhat old since I don’t experience it as hoppy as many others.

Poured a crisp and clear slightly orangish yellow, looks very, very beautiful. Head is ample, finely foamy, and laces exquisitely. Aroma is a floral punch, with citrus notes of grapefruit and a twinge of mango. This guy was floral the moment I opened the bottle, and is really a treat to smell. Taste follows suit, but adds tons of pine, and a great bitter kick. Malt backbone is perfect - the hops never get out of control, and all the hop-associated flavors are allowed to come out smoothly with each sip. Mouthfeel is great, as the carbonation is there just enough to keep everything moving around, but not too much as to get in the way of any of the awesome flavors. Drinkability is also off the charts due to the balance from start to finish. At 6$ a bomber where I got this, this has to be one of the best deals I can think of.

Big fluffu head. Nice golden color. Nice hoppy aroma but a litle bit grassy. Dry caramell taste with a litle to big bitterness that isn’t balanced. Warming and full of hop taste.

Poured into a pint glass. 4.5 A: Hazy medium orange color. Two fingers of whippy/creamy head with great retention and lots of lacing. 4.5 S: Piney, floral, and citrus hops. Grapefruit stands out the most, then lemon zest. Malts take a backseat to the hops, but there’s a touch of crystal malt in the background. 4.5 T: Tons of pine and resin hops in the taste that translates to almost an oaky taste. Healthy bitterness that lingers long into the aftertaste. Hops also offer a bit of citrusy character mainly in the form of grapefruit. Malts are subdued again, but offer a good balance to the hops. 4.5 M: Fuller medium body. Creamy, with good carbonation. 4.5 D: Great beer overall with no real flaws. bottle pours hazy orange with a medium white head. Aroma is grassy hops with lots of underlying notes of pineapple and citrus rinds. Flavor is sweet candied pineapple and juicy hops ending on the pine side, oily consistency with lots of lingering bitter pine. Good stuff.
