Itís Pretty Awesome. A San Diego classic, AleSmith IPA showcases the versatility of American hops. Aromas of grapefruit and tangerine lead into an abundance of fresh pine and tropical fruit notes followed by a crisp, resinous bitterness. The complex hop profile is supported by a firm malt presence to create an incredibly flavorful and well-balanced IPA.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2009 This beer hurts sometimes. It isnít folded-in discomfort like Ruination; itís just outright pain. Itís like they figured out how to sharpen IPA and use it like a blade. This is not a sweet, floral or fruity IPA, but a piney one. Despite the sharpness it is clean.

HUGE aroma! Great head! Lotís of bitterness. This beer is an excellent example of what an IPA is all about! Lots of citrus aroma and flavor with big bitterness. Compliments to the brewer!

Bottle: Poured a cloudy amber color with an offwhite head which left decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is classic good IPA. Strong and hoppy. Taste has a strong pine hop presence with a subtle hint of malt. An excellent IPA.

Bottle. Pours an orange/amber color with a full-sized slightly off-white head. Potent hop aroma, with lots of citrus, some pine and some slight floral notes. Delicious aroma. Flavor is also on the hoppy side. Juicy citrus, pine & earthy notes and then a nice malt backbone.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2008 Thanks to lamas for the bottle. 22 oz. bottle. Poured clear orange/amber with fluffy off-white head. Pungent floral, citrusy nose. Intense citrus, grapefruit, piney flavor. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. Definite warming alcohol noticeable.

Going on memory from last nightís tasting. Intense hop aroma, big head, solid IPA flavor with some citrus and slight fruit character. One fellow taster even mentioned thinking there was smokiness in there, which is unusual. I do need to give this another try and do a more thorough and proper rating. But my impression is quite positive.

pours a hazy honey with a big fluffy off-white head, with a bunch of little floaters hanging out. big floral and citrus hops in the smell, with bubblegum turning to grapefruit turning into a big milkshakey malt smell. taste is big grapefruit and a lot of that same tasty malt from the nose. finishes with big but not harsh bitterness. fairly full bodied for an almost chewy mouthfeel. with a bit more alcohol and maybe a bit more hoppy bitterness, this would be a double ipa. very big beer and great for a regular american ipa. reminds me a lot of the summer yulesmith.

22 oz bottle via trade with JCB. Beautiful aroma of pine, citrus and the requisite sweet caramel and toffee to balance the hops. I could honestly smell this beer all day. Thereís also just the smallest hint of flowers as well. Pours hazy orange with a nice creamy white head. Good lacing. Knocks you over the head with some bracing hops initially, but the malt kicks in to balance a bit. Itís still quite hoppy, though. Lots of grapefruit and pine. Really fresh tasting. Rich and creamy on the palate with a nice dry, bitter kick on the finish. Tasty stuff!
