4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle thanks to squidget (i think?). a glorious aroma of a breakfast of grapefruit with sugar poured on it. some slight tanginess mixed, a beautiful bouquet for my nose. slightly more bitter in the flavor, but supremely balanced with a barely discernable fruit presence that perfectly blends in with the hops. awesome beer, and my first from alesmith. i hope thereís more to come!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2005 This is the best IPA I have ever had. Pours a cloudy orange with a creamy head with great lacing. The lacing is quite surprising considering it is not a Double IPA. The the aroma has so much malt in it that you have to give it a 10. There is also some citrus, graitfruit and a very sweet smell which I canít quite put my finger on. The same smell is apparent in the Old Numbskull. The taste is to die for in an IPA. It has graitfruit, citrus and a lot of hops. Plus some hard liquor which I am unfamilar with. The sweetness is great with this brewery. The Palate is far better then any IPA I have ever had. I wasnít expecting this beer to be this spectacular. I never knew that an IPA could be this great. Iím really glad I ordered this. It was worth it.

Iíd like to sit down and drink this with an arrogant bastard...they seem very similar. Tons of flavor, very dry, Shit load of hops...a side by side blind tasting would be a thousand times more fun than Pepsi vs Coke

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 GABF and from a bottle at my cousinís house, 2004. Damn solid IPA. Creamier than I would expect in the mouthfeel, this still boasted a robust fruity hops that was crisp but not bitter. All the wonders of the flavor (hops, melons) were present in the nose, as was a slight bready malt which came back to me on the finish. Good beer. Re-Rate: on cask at the Real Ale Festival, June 2005. It was less impressive than I remembered. I think this is definitely better out of the bottle. Still very balanced, but everything was underwhelming. Iíve adjusted the overall down a couple points in consequence.

Bottle. Pours an orange copper/color. Nice sweet citric aroma. Hoppy and a little bit of spice. Huge hoppy/malty bitter flavor right up front. Some sweetness and pine as well. Alcohol is well masked. Very bitter finish.

This is one awesome IPA that is both very bold and in addition very balanced at the same time. The hops jump out at you and are full of flavor. This is a world class beer that i will have again and again.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly cloudy Yellow color with large white head. Aroma is full on piney hops, olives, grapefruit, honey. Flavor is definitely hoppy, but pretty well balanced overall with a substantial malt character. A great general IPA.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sampled on tap, from my kegerator. Very light copper/golden yellow in color with a creamy white head. Sweet citrus fruits in the nose, accents of pine. Starts assertively bitter in flavor, opens to a very well balanced sweetness and excellent citrus/piney hop flavor. Finishes bitter and dry. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, medium bodied with a dry citrus finish. This is an excellent IPA that I enjoy often.
