Itís Pretty Awesome. A San Diego classic, AleSmith IPA showcases the versatility of American hops. Aromas of grapefruit and tangerine lead into an abundance of fresh pine and tropical fruit notes followed by a crisp, resinous bitterness. The complex hop profile is supported by a firm malt presence to create an incredibly flavorful and well-balanced IPA.

Pours a hazy dark orange with a light white head. Rich floral hops smell, some citrus blended in as well. Very nice, nothing too overwhelming. Really pleasant hops. Tastes of rich, strong hops as well, not piney, more citrus than anything. A little bitter up front, but nothing offensive. Finishes really smooth and the aftertaste has a little cinnamon or brown sugar which makes it sweet. Just a fantastic IPA from a fantastic brewery.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2009 Bottle at Chris O bottlefest 2007. Great grapefruity aroma with citrus and tangerine. One of the best aromas Iíve had on a beer. In mouth, fantastic, but harsh on finish. So much tangerine, itís pretty awesome as the label says, but it fades as a beer towards the end. 4.3/5. Bottle from BeerMerchants.com Feb 2009. I agree with my rating about the aroma, the hops attack you even before they are out of the bottle, but it really is a sublime hop aroma. Not harsh, just creamy and floral and flowery and full of lychee. Up against Stone Ruination, itís hard to call, but nice to be given the chance. THis is more floral on the hop, almost more delicate if that can makes sense for such a hugely hoppy beer. Is it worth £11? Yes. Definitely, better than most wines of the same price. I certainly canít rate it any lower than Ruination. The more I drink it the more I like it, or is that the more I drink it, the more drunk I get? Along with the Speedway, this is a world class beer. Big hop without being harsh, unbelievably huge but subtle at the same time. Really quite an experience. You really do feel that this is an event rather than a beer. Really quite exceptional. Just about flawless in terms of an ipa from the West Coast.

Nice citrus and herbal hop nose with a soft biscuity malt note. Clean, crisp and dry on the palate. It builds resinous hop notes as it warms and develops a wonderful lingering bitterness. nice dry clean finish.

Bomber, pours a clear golden with a large white pillowy head and great lacing. Aroma of floral, grapefruit, pine/resin, and maybe a hint of caramel malt. Taste is a nice hops bite with a smoother malty finish. This is one nice IPA that leans a bit to an IIPA, but not so much so as to be hops intense. Thereís some nice subtly going on here that isnít usually present in your average IPA. Highly recommended.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2008 thanks to az wine for the free bottle, although $3.89 is a great price to pay. citrusy, soapy nose. starts out quite malty and citrusy and finishes with a huge hop drop kick.. iím not really an IPA guy but could find myself silly drinkiní this. 3.7 re rate...been sitting on a bottle for about a year. still a bunch of grapefruit in the nose.hops flavors have mellowed a bit to let the malt sugars shine. for a regular ipa, this kicks. still a little on the sweet side though

fresh bottle...orange hue with a soft white head. candy grapefruit and orange aroma with a touch of pine essence. flavor is still a bit on the sweet side but worth it in the end... nice dry finish is rather twig-ish without being bitter. super soft mouth feel. 8/3/8/4/18=4.1

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2008 A nice step up from the Anvil, this IPA serves up a nice dose of hoppy aroma coming from a pillowy head, with a good copper/deep golden color. Grapefruit, orange, and slight hay notes in the flavor that finishes with nicely in a dry hop bitterness. Great session beer again, this is one of my go-toís as far as IPAís are concerned. I am very appreciative to live in San Diego with all the great Alesmith stuff here.

ChrisFest Grapefruit flower aroma. Intense and too much. Quite ugly and aggressive. Like drinking washing up liquid.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2008 Big fan of this beer, just like most of the AleSmith collection. Very aromatic and citrus like - oranges, dry hoppy finish - very excited for each and every sip. Could enjoy this anytime. Try it!

Most definitely one of the best "single" IPAs. Gives Stone IPA a run for its money...whatever that means. Maybe itís better than Stone...I dunno...itís really close. Anyway...the aroma and flavor resemble that of a DIPA. In fact, this one out DIPAs a lot of DIPAs out there. Obviously, itís hoppy and citrusy, as any good IPA is. And, I think there was some vanilla caramel in there. A wonderful drinking experience.
