COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Wow this is REALLY good. Wonderful, fragrant hoppy aromas waft from the minimal thin head. Very light, velvety carbonation. Golden tawny color, slightly hazy. Sweet, but balanced by an mellow hoppy bitterness. Plenty of peach, pine and grapefruit in the finish. wow.

Best IPA I’ve ever drunk. Full-bodied yet kind of light. Pleasant amber color. Definitely a peach-citrus taste to this beer but yet not too sweet. Bought this directly from AleSmith in 22-oz. bottles, though I’ve also seen this in Whole Foods here in San Diego too.

22oz bottle: the sound made upon opening think and the little head formed by a vigorous pour makes me think that my bottle flat/under carbonated. pours a brilliant hazy honey color with very little head. aroma is stong of grapefruit and pine. maybe some lemon and orange with just a tinge of malt. the mouth feels is less carbonated that what i am used, but i like it. i do think that mine is some how under carbonated. flavor is amazing though. tons of grapfruit and pine with hints of caramel, peaches and a tiny bit of vanilla. very balacned and very drinkable. i hope my other bottles dont have the same carbonation problem.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a nice off-white head on top. Aroma is full of hops with hints of pine and citrus. Flavor is full of hops at initial sip. Notes of citrus, fruit, and pine hit the tongue and give it a nice lashing. Malts come in to balance out the deal with nice sweetness at the end. A medium bodied beer that is smooth and very enjoyable. By far one of the best IPAs around.

Finally! Took 2 seperate trips to southern California to find this elusive brew (not that I minded "having" to go back). Hazy orange/copper pour with a modest but sturdy off-white head and good lacing. Typically floral/fuity/piney hop aroma for a top tier west coast IPA with consistant flavors. A touch of brown sugar, peaches and plenty of malt sweetness in the flavors as well. Rich mouthfeel and a brisk bitter finish with hints of vanilla at the end. A great IPA from a region seemingly crowded with fantastic offerings.

22oz bomber. Murky orange to copper color with very thin white head. Rich sweet caramel malty aroma with some light pine hops. Taste as it smells. Caramel malts, some earthiness, some wet hops and pine hop bitterness. Maybe what I’m tasting is hop flavor since the bitterness is on the light side.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2006 Bottle. This was a very good beer, Orange with fluffy white head which lasted until the last drop. Very lively carbonation. Aroma of apricots and citrus. The taste was the same with pine and malty flavors throughout. Smooth body with mild alcohol/sticky hop finish.

Thanks to Odeed for the great bonus brew. Hazy golden orange color with large white head and lots of lacing. Aroma is mixture of citrus and floral hops. Flavor is citrusy with a minty pine kick. Could have been a bit fuller bodied and the alcohol presence is a little much.
