Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

22 oz bottle. Perfect pour -- orange-copper color, just-opaque, with a perfectly rolling head. The aroma is also a winner -- equal parts good ol’ malt "beer smell" and glorious citrusy hops. This drinks with an almost-thick resiny consistency, with a muscled hoppy character and sweet malt backdrop. Very, very well put-together brew. (#3554, 5/26/2009)

Bottle. Big piney hops in the aroma, along with biscuity malt and a hint of citrus. Tremendously full and mellow mouthfeel. Flavor has well balanced bitter and sweet flavors. Finishes with slew of citrus, pine and mild herbal flavors, long lingering bitterness and hop oils. Obviously very well made. The bold finish was unparalleled among ipas I’ve tried. IMO not as much flavor in the middle as Two-Hearted ale.

22oz bomber of ale smith ipa. Poured into a tulip glass. Aroma is the best part of this beer. Smells of citrus and hops with a slight malt or breadiness. Large white head that slowly breaks down if at all. Strong grapefruit flavor with a bitter finish. One of my favorite IPA’s.

Really enjoyed this even though I got raked over the coals to the tune of $15.00 for one 22oz. bottle. Aroma and flavor were both dominated by strong grapefruit with hints of pine and orange blossom honey. Mouthfeel was full for the style and very filling but with a crispness at the finish. Well balanced and so far the best IPA I’ve had. A sliver more ingredients and this would be winter yulesmith.

Bottle (75 cl) at Café 3 smĺ rum, Göteborg, Sweden. Shady golden, medium white head. Perfumy, piney, and floral hops, on a clean malt backbone, along with some tropical fruits. Medium bodied and smooth. Long bitter finish. Very delicious. Not priceworthy though.

22 oz bomber, poured into a tulip glass. Light clear amber, with small white head. Aroma of resinous hops, grapefruit, pineapple, and sweet malt...just fantastic! Taste is more sweet bready malt, grapefruit, pine, and some sweet fruits (peach, mango?). Crisp medium mouthfeel. Just a fantastic IPA, probably the best I’ve had. Top notch!!!

Bomber from the awesome Smokepot23. Pours a glorious, clear dark gold with a lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine resin with biscuity malt in the background. Tastes of pine, citrus and sweet malt. Finishes with a lingering, but not overwhelming bitterness. Great mouthfeel - substantial but not oily. All told, one hell of an IPA.
