COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Had a Sculpin and this in a sampler tray and both were strong and hoppy but wildly different. I think I prefer the peppery and citrusy character of this one slightly over the Sculpin. Poured a dark orange and is well balanced.

Dark orange-red, beige cover. Aroma is juicy, citrusy, some spicy hops, caramel, toffee. Taste is some bitter, fruity citrus, toffee, sweet, but some drying spicy hops.

Pours a rich golden colour with a big frothy white head and slightly hazy. Aroma is of hops, pine and citrus fruits; orange, grapefruit, and lemon. Taste is fairly sweet throughout and also has a bitterness that consistently grows toward the finish. Medium body, average carbonation, slightly thick on the palate and fairly smooth. Overall amazing, the best IPA I have ever had.

22 oz. bottle, courtesy of and split with manuchampions, pours a hazy golden copper. Heavenly pine / citrus hops on the nose, with big grapefruits notes and sweet caramel. Flavour is heavy on the grapefruits, pine / citrus hops, cotton candy and sweet caramel malts. Very expertly balanced and a wonderful IPA.

Seriously people...this isn’t the best IPA in the world. Speedway Stout was amazing, but it seems AleSmith’s ESB and IPA are a bit overhyped. Bomber pours a glowing honey gold with an off-white cap of head. Aroma is heavy on the pine resin with a little lemon and wet blanket for good measure. Flavors seem quite mundane...hop resin and puckeringly sweet fruit. Moderate carbonation, dry finish. Meh.

Bomber - Dark golden appearance with off white head. Nice pineapple and mango on the nose. Mouthfeel is moderately oily with a slight lingering bitterness. Picking up a lot of the nose in the flavor - citrusy/floral notes with a slight bit of pine. Very nice.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2011 Growler in Hotel which was picked up from Alesmith. Really well balanced for the style and masterfully produced. Lots of tropical fruit and hints of pine. Toffee malt body is dry and balances the hop onslaught well. Alesmith beers are always so ’clean’ - perhaps it’s the water?? There are hoppier beers available, but this shows you can add balance to a WCIPA to produce a refined experience.
