COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Hazy gold in the glass with a fair white head. Aroma is dank bitter hops, resinous pine, minor citrus, and light sweet malt. Dry feel in the mouth with tightly structured hops and pine (not much citrus or even malt in the taste). I can still vividly remember the first time I had this beer in ’01 and how its hop-forward citrus aroma blew my mind. Not quite as earth shattering now but this beer will always be a classic example of an excellent IPA for me.

Yep they said it perfectly in the description. Bottle pours deep gold with a beige head. Aroma is full of sweet caramel, citrus, and dark stone fruit. Flavor is once again nailed by the description(amazingly), there is definate plum, black cherry, moderate pine, candied grapefruit, and a touch of vanilla. Overall body is moderate and sticky with a nice balanced bitterness. Easily one of my favority IPA’s.

750ml bottle from Brewdog Aberdeen. Pours light amber in with decent beige head. Nose; citrus fruits, resin, pine. Taste; very smooth, pine, oranges, lemons, some passion fruit, long-lasting bitter finish. Solid IPA.

Pine, citrus and resin aromas. All the same in the taste with an added (and not unsubstantial) caramel and vanilla malt flavor. A nice, medium bitter finish and a little warmth from the alcohol take this one out. Another nice Alesmith brew.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2011 22oz bottle, unknown date. Pours hazy orange/amber with a small bubbly white head that leaves some spots of lacing. Aroma is some citrus (orange, grapefruit) and pine, some pineapple and tropical fruits, fair bit of caramel malt, a nice blend of sweet and citrus on the nose, good strength. Flavor starts with pine and resinous hops, some delayed citrus of orange and grapefruit, caramel malt sweetness in the middle, moderate to good bitterness in the lingering finish. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and oily, medium carbonation. I have a feeling this bottle may be a bit on the old side but I have absolutely no way of knowing since Alesmith doesn’t provide a bottled on or best by date (or at least not one I could find). My first time with Alesmith IPA so I cannot compare to other bottles of this since it isn’t available here. A good IPA, but would love to try a known fresh bottle someday.

Drinking this one on thanksgiving in san diego with the little bro. Nice orange color to this beer with a long lasting off white head. At first, aroma is of pine trees and pine needles. Mmm. Moves to a citrusy orange like smell towards the end. Taste is fairly grapefruit like at first. Has some resin and pine tree like tastes mixed throughout with a bitter aftertaste. I like it

Poured medium orange with a thin white head. Aroma is a huge burst of grapefruit and piney hops. Perfect. Flavor was sweet, heavy bitterness but nice. Long finish but not dry. Extremely enjoyable!!
