COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

G: Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass. A: Medium copper with a large, foamy white head and loads of lacing. Loads of carbonation visible in the glass--I got an amazing carbonation tornado after the pour was complete. S: Highly floral and citrusy in the hop department. T: Floral and citrus, with a little bit of pine. M: Medium-bodied with a good deal of carbonation. Very little alcohol presence. D: Delicious IPA. Reminds me very much of Bell’s Two Hearted.

650ml bottle. From the second you open the bottle the piney citrus hop notes burst out and attack you. Deep golden orange like sunset over the water. Small beige head with some pineapple in the nose. Long on the palate with a dry finish. Exceptional.

Bottle: Pours a Nice clear medium golden color; very average off white head- creamy consistency with nice retention. Huge juicy orange, piney hops on the nose. While I notice that typical ipa bitterness, i also notice that this brew is as smooth as I can ever remember experiencing for the style. Its sublime... probably the juiciest ipa i can recall as well - Just an incredible perfect blend of grapefruit/oranges, piney hop bitterness, creamy smooth texture for the style - love. this. beer.

Bomber. My buddy said it best..."best pure IPA of the lot"...tasted with 5 other SD IPAs. Exactly what an IPA should be...golden beige color, clean ever-so-slightly sweet finish. Tremendous balance. I want just a little more back palate/acid. Terrific mid palate and nice floral aromas with perfect bitterness. Awesome brew.

Experienced from a 22oz bomber in a whiskey snifter. Obviously an over-aged sample, as all hop aroma, bitterness, and flavor had fallen out of the beer, leaving only a moderate residual sweetness and a fairly prevalent note of alcohol. Clearly, this was not a representative example of the beer.

This is really one of the best IPA’s I’ve had as it is just so drinkable (in the top 10). Pours a beautiful golden/light orange hue, a nice (but not a dense) head indicating a lower carbonation level than some. Not a huge fresh hop aroma but it has travelled to Australia and may not be the freshest bottle. Aroma is still pleasant piny more than the fruits of usual fresh IPA’s. Taste is medium bitterness, full bodied but like I said, low carbonation.
