Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

22 oz thanks to Joey! Pours a clear, light amber with a one finger beige head. Moderate carbonation. God-like lacing. Big grapefruit aroma with sweet caramel, toffee, flowers, pineapple juice. Taste is very well balanced. Up front lots of pineapple juice and bubbles followed by fresh grapefruit juice, citrus hops, and some sweet caramel malt. Spicy, dry finish. Best IPA in the world? Pretty close but I might take Sierra Nevada Harvest over this one. But damn this is good.

Bomber served in a tulip. Pours a polished golden copper with a large frothy off-white head. Aromatic pineapple hops with an underlying vanilla, sweet honeyed malt. My favorite nose of any IPA. Significant lacing. Medium body and smooth, creamy texture. Earthy, warming, bittersweet finish of some length. Fantastic!

1 pint 6oz bottle from BevMo. Poured a pure copper color with a nice white head that fell very slowly, moderate carbonation. The smell is very floral, lots of citrus and hops. The taste is all citrus, a good amount of hops with a slightly bitter aftertaste but not overwhelming at all. Really good, close to perfect IPA. Just what I wanted.

Smell is of fresh hops. Smells dry and it is. Nice flavor of citrus and strong malts in the background. Hops dominate here, and they are of the particularly sticky and resiny kind. Spicy and finishes dry, and the hops keep kicking long after the beer is gone. Great beer, and great IPA.

Bottle. aroma filled with fresh hops, grass and flowers. Cloudy amber colour with medium beige head. Bittler flavour, but not overwhelming allowing the malt to express itself. Also spicy and some fresh fruits. Very well balanced. Moderate carbonation.

Thanks to WeeheavySD for this bottle. So much bitterness and hoppy fruity goodness. I still don’t think that this is my favorite IPA (I maintain that two-hearted and masala mama are still better), it’s gotta be damn close.

Bottle bought at BevMo on my last trip to California. Orange/amber in colour with a reasonable head. Citrus taste and of course hop presence (hops were not too overpowering though). Very bitter, alcohol is surprisingly well hidden. Pretty good but I have had better American IPA’s than this.
