COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Pours a hazy deep golden colour with a foamy off white head. Hops gathered along the bottom of the cup and floating through out the beverage. Aroma of citrus. Flavour of grapefruit, oranges, hops. Slightly bitter and a little tangy. I love a good IPA!!!

Bottle. Pours slight hazy golden colored with a nice lacing and lasting egg white head. Aromas of citrus, lemon zest, vitamin pills, spruce and bready malt. Very balanced and crisp flavor with notes of sweet malt and citrus flavored hops. Great IPA.

Bottle. Simply brilliant; aggressive hops, but not overpowering; cedary and a bit dank; dark orange hue. Best head retention and lacing that I’ve ever seen in a brew. Wonderful West Coast IPA.

Bottle courtesy of tarheels86, thanks! Amber/orange color, large white head, massive lacing. Aroma of Christmas tree and citrus. Taste is smooth, resiny, floral all at once - a lot going on here. Terrific stuff.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2011 A: Dark golden/amber body with a huge fluffy off-white head.. great retention... thick lacing... inviting! S: Mix of grapefruit/lemon citrus hops.. soft foresty pine hops... dash of sweet malt T: Mirrors the nose... slightly bolder blast of grapefruit and lemon bitter hops... piney comes in towards the end... nice lingering piney bitterness... M: Smooth transitions between the different hop characteristics... as above the finish is lingering but crisp... nice! D: One of the best IPAs out there ... great work alesmith!

This one covers all the bases with a citrusy, resiny, and perfumey aroma. This golden yellow pour is hazy and full of yeast chunks, no matter, because the malt notes are present, with some residual sweetness, plus the hop flavor and bitter finish are so nicely absurd. Blunt resiny finish, like there’s lupilin bits floating in suspension.

22oz bottle. A pretty orange-copper in color with a light head that disappears quickly. A sweet-hoppy aroma and a taste that’s sweet the instant it hits your tongue and quickly transforms into a refreshing, hoppy bitterness that lingers. A great IPA.
