Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Dec 26, 2008 22oz bottle. Dark gold pour with a nice stiff white head. Nice piney aroma, very nice. Nice hop bite, very smooth and flavorful. Very good IPA. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Dec 23, 2008 Updated: Jul 3, 2009Purchased at Whole Foods Market Pasadena, CA -Hastingsd.
Appearance: Dark, goldish yellow. Moderate amount of rising bubbles. A large off white, fluffy head sits atop.
Aroma: Orange juice, grapefruit juice, citrus rind, pineapple.
Taste: A mouthful of bitterness and citrus flavors mentioned in the aroma. After the bitterness gets acquainted with my palate, I then taste a good amount of crystal malts, that lends a bit of spicy sweetness to the large amount of hoppage.
Mouthfeel: A tad astringent, a little bit tongue curling. Then I notice the trademark smooth softness of Alesmith in the finish.
Overall: Much better than when I first had it. I was told the trick is to get it fresh. I can see how that can be true, as the killer bouquet of citrus aromas takes the beer to a whole nother level. In my little weird world, I would like to make this Summer Yulesmiths little brother. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 20, 2008 Bottle. High creamy and lasting white head. Hazy orange body with a good deal of bubbles. Oranges lemon hops aroma in a very well balanced mixture. A bit of nuts and some spicy notes are added.l Flavor is very fruity and far from being as bitter as feared although the hops is quite distinct. Alcohol percentage is not noticed, or in other words seams just right. Nice dryness with low carbonation and a good and long aftertaste. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Dec 19, 2008 EXCELLENT IPA, perhaps the best normal (non-imperial) IPA I have ever had. Perfectly balanced West Coast hops and sweel caramel malt. Appearance is golden and slightly translucent, mouthfeel is satisfying. Could not ask for much more out of this one. lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Dec 18, 2008 Pours orange copper with pillowy white head. Beautiful citrus bouquet, with a slight pale malt presence and some wonderful earthy-herbal notes. Flavor contains tons of citrus, initially tempered with caramel and cherry notes, followed by herbal tea, and finishing bitter and oily like orange peel. Great dry finish. If this isnt the best ipa in the world, its definitely up there. mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Dec 13, 2008 22 oz. bottle, picked up at the brewery today. Very clear golden bronze, lots of bubbles and a frothy white head that sticks around. Amazing fresh hop aroma with some citrus. Bitterness is a little less than I expected, which is not a bad thing. Definitely some pine, and citrus. Mild malt sweetness. A nice balanced finish of dry bitterness. Overall this is amazing. Almost perfect, but a little light on the palate. Theis (3617), Denmark Dec 12, 2008 Bottle at Lundbeck Christmas party. Clear golden/amber - white head. High hoppy, citrus, grape, peppery, pine needles, pineapple, sweetness, resin, light caramel, nice smooth, smooth malty. Light bitter aftertaste. Lovely. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Dec 8, 2008 pours a lovely cloudy burnt orange with a decent frothy head with slight lacing. The nose of grapefruit, orange rind, pure citrus, and hops is quite delectable. Well on first taste all you can really say is balanced. Extremely balanced fruit, hop, alcohol. Same fruits as in the nose. Very attractive hops not to tannic yet not to subtle. Type of IPA you can just sit around and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and finally pass out. MMM Delicious.
