COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottled. Pours slightly cloudy orange to amber with a pillowy and lacy head. Massively hopped aroma has peaches, resiny pine needles, lemon and certain harbal grassy notes. Good malt body, fruitiness and ripe red berries. Some biscuity and nutty maltiness with a touch of caramelly sweetness. The flavor is bitter but very well in balance with slightly sweetish maltiness. Crisp, bitter finish. Medium bodied palate. Very smooth mouthfeel with low carbonation and lingering bitterness. A very good IPA with outstanding balance.

Bottle. Orange pour with a small frothy white head. Aroma is citrus and malt. Taste is citrus hop, followed by a malty backbone. Fades to a dry finish. Excellent!

Sampled on draft at The Taproom in San Diego earlier this week. One of the best IPAs I’ve ever had, with excellent balance, to my palate anyway. Less malty than some brews, this is just the epitome of the style. Not as floral as Green Flash West Coast IPA or Ithaca’s Flower Power, its hops balance is excellent anyway. Alesmith beers seem to be impossible to find on the East Coast unfortunately. After that sample I see why this IPA has gotten so highly rated on RB.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2011 Tap at Fathers Office and in bottle form 18 months later in Flagstaff AZ. Pours yellow - light orange a nice, long lasting, big foam - off white cream. Excellent hop aroma big citrus and pine over a touch of light sweetness, grain and spice. Med-light body, generally big bitterness balanced by a chewy caramel malt presence. Finishes balanced, tad on the bitter end with a touch of light malt. Solid IPA.

Bottle. Poured a darker orange color with a two finger foam head. Left a lot of lacing on the side of the glass as it went. A very well balanced ipa. Very sweet and good. Citrus and pine hops. I love this IPA.

Great head, nose, and flavor. Very smooth. Medium bodied with a well hidden ABV. Take the best of Two Hearted Ale and Sculpin IPA and you got this winner. Alesmith is on point with their IPAs. Aroma is of cantaloupe, hops, peach, apricot, and grapefruit. Citrus taste folllowed by some sweet melon or cantaloupe flavors. Ends dry and hoppy. Pours deep gold with a foamy head that lasts if poured right. One of the best if not the best Ive had in its class. Cheers!

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip out west. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy vibrant orange color with a huge yellow-white head that lingered. The aroma was sweet pine, grapefruit and orange. The flavor was strong sweet grapefruit, pine and orange with notes of nut and pepper underneath. The finish was long with fruity hops. Fairly full bodied. Well done.
