COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Rating 400! Bottle. Ours very hazy amber, with a big thick off-white head, nice lacing. Nose is a fruit-splosion, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, orange, plus great rank, sticky hops. Nice pine and grass character coming through. Flavor is actually more intense than the nose, if that’s possible. Soft yeast and good malt are steamrolled by the great rolling bitterness and fantastic rank hops again. Monster nose, fantastic in the mouth, great finish, Awesome IPA!

Bottle. Pours a light, hazy orange with a big, fluffy white head, spotted lacing. Nice. Aroma is terrific, loads of canned fruits, mango and pineapple, citrus and resin, with a hint of fruity and caramely sweetness underneath. Lovely! Huge flavour in this one, very juicy and fresh, starts off sweet for about a tenth of a second before a big, drying bitterness finishes it off and lingers. It’s big, but not brutal. Well balanced. A slight alcohol note distracts a bit. Carbonation could have been a bit smoother and toned down a little, but this is without a doubt one of the finest IPAs I’ve ever had, and one of the most enjoyable beers too. Splendid.

Beer #3 of IPA night in good old Lethbridge AB. This beauty thanks to Savvy1982. Pours a golden colour with a fluffy white head. The aroma is down right rank with earthy funky goodness. The aroma has citrus, pine, grass, musty basement, soft fruit and grapefruit rind. The palate brings loads of grapefruit, grass, wet dirt and spice. There is a chewy, hairy bitterness that grows on your tongue like a crazy tasty fungus. I want more...

looks great hazy yellow with tall thick white head smells great excellent hoppy aroma. Lots of chinook hops. Mice flavour. Very hoppy. A very funky beer with a very funky hop to it. I really like it this is how IPA is supposed to be. Bitter and funky sticking to the inside of your mouth. Also noticing some grapefruit aroma as well!

Nice, big, bold, crisp, hoppy IPA, though it is perhaps a bit dry for my liking. I definitely needed a couple glasses of water to aid in finishing this bomber. Pours a cloudy orange with a thick, white, deep head. Drinks more like an Imperial/Double IPA. Definitely a hop bomb.

650 mL bottle from Total Wine in Tucson, served in a snifter. Pours a hazy amber-orange with a rocky off-white head and medium-sized particles. Head diminishes, leaving slight lace. Grapefruit-pine hops are dominant aroma, along with moderate pale bready malts. Notes of vanilla, banana and doughy yeast. Light-medium in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Begins malty sweet, but gradually acquires peppery spice as dryness builds towards the end. Finish is long and dry, with a hint of grapefruit. Surprisingly dry, but in a pleasing sort of way. 2010-02-21

Citrus aroma with a golden picture perfect body. Rootbeer float like massive head with an abundance of small frothy bubbles. Stong hoppy taste masks the high abv. Delicious warm tasting IPA with a lingering sharpness on the tounge. Great IPA and great beer for the price ($3.99 for a bomber)
